Time: 44:36 (9:00 pace)

I had Jeff Lecheminant drop me off at Ocotillo and Ironwood, and I ran home.  Last time I did this same run there was more traffic, which was good because the cars' headlights provided almost constant lighting for me.  Today there were less cars and more running in the dark than I would have liked.  My lower back was tight the whole time and my knees are sore.  I think I'll take it easy tomorrow.

Be careful, remember what happened to Mike when he ran in the dark??

From montelepsy on Fri, Nov 21, 2008 at 06:15:15

Last time I ran in the dark, I was chicked!

From Burt on Fri, Nov 21, 2008 at 09:58:10

Ouch. That's embarrasing.

From kungfublonde on Fri, Nov 21, 2008 at 10:58:37

You were chicked? You have chicks out there in the dark? Was the the one that pushed you down and made you sprain your ankle?

(still wondering what you were doing out in the middle of nowhere with a chick in the dark...)

From montelepsy on Fri, Nov 21, 2008 at 11:58:24

Actually, I don't know for sure if it was a man or a woman. Whatever it was passed me and I couldn't catch it. I really tried too. Teena said it was probably a chick.

From kungfublonde on Fri, Nov 21, 2008 at 12:00:04

Teena was there too?? What the hey!

From kungfublonde on Fri, Nov 21, 2008 at 12:00:45

(please tell me you aren't still running in the dark)

From montelepsy on Fri, Nov 21, 2008 at 12:04:43

I'm no longer running unpaved roads in the dark. That happened because I was at Kalsu for a couple days and that's pretty much a dirt farm instead of a proper base.

From kungfublonde on Fri, Nov 21, 2008 at 12:07:25

ohhhh. At that time you weren't allowed to say where you were.

We hijacked Burt's blog. Hi Burt!

From montelepsy on Fri, Nov 21, 2008 at 12:10:58

I'm not allowed to talk about possible movements on an unsecure line. After everything's done then it's all good. They had better food there, though. And that's no secret.

From montelepsy on Fri, Nov 21, 2008 at 12:13:54

Burt,

Don't run on unpaved trails at night unless you have invulnerable ankles. Or boots. Or a head lamp. I ran with a flashlight, but I held it in my hand which went up and down while I ran and really didn't do much good.

From Burt on Fri, Nov 21, 2008 at 12:22:54

Apparently I'm running in the dark with my views on gay marriage. Haha. That was a metaphor. Well, I said I was done commenting on Sasha's thread, so I'll address your comment here, Rachel. It's not what two consenting adults are doing in the bedroom because now they are coming out of the bedroom and trying to make their lifestyle socially acceptable by allowing for gay marriages. Our society's acceptance of this lecherous behavior will surely be its downfall. I know gay people and I have two of them that I consider friends. Well, one now. The one I never knew was gay. What he did was his business. He never tried to push his ideas on me, and probably because I'm ugly, he never made any passes at me. He died of AIDS. The other was a kid I'd known since first grade. I can't help but blame myself for his lifestyle choice because on the bus on the way home we would play house and we would always make him be the mom. After high school when he came out of the closet, he was a bit more promiscuous with his sexuality. He would talk about it and slap other guys' butts, and giggle. It made my stomach turn. And it was not because I was taught it was wrong. Deep down inside we all know it's wrong. They know it's wrong the first time they experiment, but they choose to believe it's okay to help them cope with it. Am I rambling yet? Anyway, I agree with you to the point that we should let them do what they want to do in the privacy of their own bedroom, but it just seems to me that it's coming out of the bedroom now.

From Burt on Fri, Nov 21, 2008 at 12:23:28

Oh my. That was long.

From kungfublonde on Fri, Nov 21, 2008 at 12:31:23

As you know, I respect your opinion on this topic Burt. I mean your facts :)

Anyone who is obnoxious with their sexuality makes me uncomfortable, gay or straight. Nice couples like me and Mike who are instead a Barry and Paul, don't bother me. I'm not going to tell you they shouldn't bother you. I'm just totally not going ot invite you to my "raging gay fiesta night" party that we have every year.

From montelepsy on Fri, Nov 21, 2008 at 12:32:10

Remind me never to play house with you.

From Burt on Fri, Nov 21, 2008 at 12:41:24

Raging gay fiesta night...that's rich.

From kungfublonde on Fri, Nov 21, 2008 at 14:01:41

The nachos are FAAAAAbulous!

From Kelli on Fri, Nov 21, 2008 at 21:28:00

I guess I need to go read Sasha's blog on this topic. WOW.

Burt, have you always had 6 kids or is this a new development? Why did I never notice this before?!? Give your wife a high five from me AND then buy her dinner, flowers, a massage, and get her a maid and a chef, oh and take her on a cruise.

From Kelli on Fri, Nov 21, 2008 at 22:06:05

I just read it, it took a long time. WOW. Glad I missed that one.

From Burt on Fri, Nov 21, 2008 at 23:46:34

I know, it's so long. Probably longer than Walter's because everybody wrote an essay each time.

From montelepsy on Fri, Nov 21, 2008 at 23:54:58

Hmmm... I usually try to avoid writing essays. In fact, that's the reason I switched majors in college :)

From Burt on Sat, Nov 22, 2008 at 00:10:29

What did you switch from and to?

From Matt on Sat, Nov 22, 2008 at 00:57:39

So the thread has moved has it?

Just kidding I was just checking in on you guys.

From kungfublonde on Sat, Nov 22, 2008 at 01:01:57

I kept mine short!!

I'm so cosiderate that way :)

From montelepsy on Sat, Nov 22, 2008 at 01:13:33

I switched from biology to chemistry. I'm not able to make my own bulletproof webbing like Peter Parker was with only a high school chemistry background, but I can calculate the number of molecules in a given mass of x compound. Which is so helpful.

From kungfublonde on Sat, Nov 22, 2008 at 01:21:45

Aren't you super interested to know what my degree is in, Burt?

From Burt on Sat, Nov 22, 2008 at 09:33:11

Funny Matt.

Mike - I should see if my boy would have an interest in chemistry since he just got suspended for bringing his own home-made stink bomb and smoke bomb to school.

Rachel - Of course I'm interested to know. I just figured you were a stay-at-home mom and there would be no reason to get an education because there was no way you could compete as a female in the job market. ;)

From kungfublonde on Sat, Nov 22, 2008 at 10:40:15

Yes, which is why I changed my major from Wal Mart to communication, emphasis on inter-culteral, with a minor in psychology. Now I have a great job with decent pay and amazing benifits- I'm a housweife :) Grad school starts in January. I figure with the kitchen remodel and a husband overseas 13 months at a time, I need a MA for this job.

From kungfublonde on Sat, Nov 22, 2008 at 10:47:40

how old is your little chemist, Burt?

From montelepsy on Sat, Nov 22, 2008 at 13:45:06

What's your background Burt?

From montelepsy on Sat, Nov 22, 2008 at 14:26:34

You're hot, by the way!

From Kelli on Sat, Nov 22, 2008 at 14:36:33

Woah, boy, who are you calling hot? Burt or your wife??

I am not going to get all serious here in any way, but I cam from a profession where you are better off being a woman---women run the joint!! So, although I see the point of some of that argument, it is not universally true.

Not touching the rest of that stuff with a 10 foot pole!! But, yes, some people did certainly write essays and a lot of them. I do not know how I missed that going on---quite serious for our goofy little running blog!

From montelepsy on Sat, Nov 22, 2008 at 14:40:46

I was calling Burt hot (the proof's on the right of the screen), Rachel already know's she's hot.

What profession is that Kelli?

From Kelli on Sat, Nov 22, 2008 at 14:47:05

OH----that kind of HOT. Got it!

Aren't you at least going to try to guess what my profession was??? I know you can do it.

From montelepsy on Sat, Nov 22, 2008 at 14:50:53

Where you a lawyer?

From Kelli on Sat, Nov 22, 2008 at 14:52:43

No, if that was it I would have gotten in on the argument going on in Sasha's Blog, but I am not eloquent enough to express my opinion. Actually, I really do not have much of one! So, no, not a lawyer.

From montelepsy on Sat, Nov 22, 2008 at 14:58:31

May I have a hint?

From Kelli on Sat, Nov 22, 2008 at 15:03:25

I thought I gave a hint---that the profession is almost entirely all females. Did you need another hint? It requires a 4 year degree and lots of sitting on the floor. Many people do not consider it a profession (maybe that is becasue there are so many women!!)

From montelepsy on Sat, Nov 22, 2008 at 15:18:09

You were a teacher!

From Kelli on Sat, Nov 22, 2008 at 15:20:50

See, I knew it was not that hard if you just thought about it for a sec. Us women ruled the place. We only had 2 male teachers, and they were wimpy! I taught in a rough area, to say the least. One time I was standing between 2 very BIG Polynesian 6th graders who were fighting. One had a desk over his head ready to throw it. I was about 6 inches shorter and 8 months pregnant, standing between them trying to talk them out of the fight. A male teacher came walking around the corner and actually turned and ran!!!

From montelepsy on Sat, Nov 22, 2008 at 15:26:08

Yikes! You should be the cop in the family!

From montelepsy on Sat, Nov 22, 2008 at 15:27:10

Did you major in Education?

From Kelli on Sat, Nov 22, 2008 at 15:29:58

My degree is in Elementary Education, yes!

I always told my husband that his job was safer than mine becasue he got to wear a bullet proof vest and I did not! I kept picturing Columbine like incidents at my school---schools are not safe and so many kids are CRAZY!

However, I demanded a certain amount of respect and usually got it!! The chair was never thrown and the fight did not happen. I was a mean little (as opposed to the kids I taught) teacher! I taught 5 years and was pregnant 4 of them---so that brings with it certain perks, like crazy mean hormones!

From kungfublonde on Sat, Nov 22, 2008 at 16:28:01

I haven't been hot for a while.

I have no idea how that blog ended up being about inferior pay for women. Weird.

Kelli, I plan to teach when my girls are older. But at the college level. I'm not as brave as you :)

From Kelli on Sat, Nov 22, 2008 at 17:11:28

I am going to get a certificate to teach HS English---that is my passion. But, not until the youngest is in school for a few years.

From Burt on Sat, Nov 22, 2008 at 17:29:34

I knew my blog was one comment away from getting on the hot board. That's why I didn't want to answer how old my son was. Oh well. He's 13. And he may be one of the CRAZY's Kelli was talking about. Hopefully not, but this was one of the dumber things he's done in a while. Then of course he lied to the sheriff's deputy about everything when questioned. Any advice?

From Kelli on Sat, Nov 22, 2008 at 17:40:51

You don't want to be HOT??? SORRY!

Ground him, watch him like a hawk, remove all explosives from his vicinity, restrict internet access, take away anything he loves. and so on...

See, I am mean.

I am sure he is a good kid, I have heard of worse. My 15 year old failed seminary. How is that for ya? She doesn't build bombs, but she dislikes religion. Scary.

From Burt on Sat, Nov 22, 2008 at 17:46:31

Ground him - check. Hawklike vigilance - check. Remove all explosives - check (I hope.) Internet access restriction - check. Take away anything he loves - PSP, skateboard, himself - 2 out of 3.

He is a good kid. But once a year he does something real stupid to get him in big trouble. This is one of the worst because it's the first time it's involved law enforcement. I just hope when it's all said and done he learns his lesson, but so far his attitude seems to be getting worse.

From Burt on Sat, Nov 22, 2008 at 18:01:16

Mike - I'm a civil engineer.

From Kelli on Sat, Nov 22, 2008 at 18:31:12

It really sounds like normal kid stuff---I am sure all is well. Kids test the limits and do stupid stuff, it is part of growing up, right? I am so excited for my boys to grow up (not). My daughter has been really quite a good kid, my boys scare me (like the one that just had an incident with spray paint, and he is only 10!)

From kungfublonde on Sun, Nov 23, 2008 at 00:17:54

Direct his interests into something constructive. That's all I got. Or else put on comfy jammies, watch funny movies and paint his toenails funky colors. That always helps me reconnect with my kids.

I'm calling the police next time Mike brings a stink bomb in here, too. Good idea.

From montelepsy on Sun, Nov 23, 2008 at 04:49:56

Kelli,

Pregnant for 4 years and dealing with challenging kids, no wonder you were mean.

Burt,

Ask your son for his smoke bomb recipe, apparently Rachel only annoyed with smells.

Hon,

Let's do some of that when I'm home. I'd even be down for getting my toenails did.

From Burt on Sun, Nov 23, 2008 at 15:52:45

My son's pretty creative. Unfortunately creativity and a love of explosives aren't a good mix. I'm not sure all the ingredients he put in them, but I'm sure it will come out in the bomb squad report. In the "stink bomb" he put gun powder from shotgun shells and fireworks, hair, and some stuff he found around the kitchen that he thought would stink once ignited. The smoke bomb had gun powder, red kool-aid, paper, and other stuff.

From Shanti on Mon, Nov 24, 2008 at 18:41:50

Your worst nightmare come true, I am now on your blog!!!!!!

I laughed when I read your statement:

"He would talk about it and slap other guys' butts, and giggle. It made my stomach turn."

How is it that you can possibly watch a single mainstream men's sporting event, they are slapping butt's after every play! LOL!!!!!

My heart goes out to you and your son.

From Burt on Mon, Nov 24, 2008 at 18:52:08

NNNNNOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Not Shanti!!! LOL!!

I think the whole giggling thing after the butt slapping was what did it for me. I admit, I'm quite the butt slapper myself, but of course in a manly way. Then again, there was probably a lot more squeezing than slapping going on when my gay friend would do it. I wonder what he's up to now. He wanted to make it big in Hollywood as a director. I remember before I knew he was gay and I went to his house, he had all these pictures of Michael J. Fox plastered all over his wall. In my innocence I gave him the benefit of the doubt because I knew he was in the drama club and loved acting. Good times.

From kungfublonde on Mon, Nov 24, 2008 at 22:42:38

Shanti, I can't get the link to your blog to work...

Burt, *please* don't help Mike in any way with bringing any stink into this house!!
