I just ran a new 10k PR!

Glen and I went to Red Mountain Park tonight to get our run in and so his kids could go rollerblading.   Since I've never ran there, I told him to lead the way.  He took off real fast.  I kept close behind and followed him.  He seemed to be making up the course as we went.  That made it all the more fun.  I'm used to my boring runs around the block.  And there were some nice rolling hills.  After two of his random loops we had gone about 3 miles.  Glen said, "Let's go another two laps."  I knew we were right around a 7:30 pace, and if we kept it up I would be on pace to break my 10k PR.  So we ran another couple of laps with his kids occasionally trying to stay up with us on the uphills and passing us on the downhills.  I watched my Garmin so I could stop it at 6.20 miles.  47:11.  I'm pretty sure I can get closer to 45:00 if I tried, but I haven't ran a 10k in forever.  Nevertheless, a new unofficial PR is nice.

Splits - 7:29, 7:35, 7:29, 7:40, 7:52, 7:36, 1:30

Congratulations! New PRs are the best!

Thanks Catherine! And I just wrote something stupid on your blog. Now I feel dumb.

From catherine on Fri, Jan 28, 2011 at 00:04:16 from 98.202.112.51

What made it stupid?

From Burt on Fri, Jan 28, 2011 at 00:05:59 from 72.223.90.79

Because I didn't say anything about your 20 week appt. or your 2 mile treadmill run. I just repeated one word you used.

From catherine on Fri, Jan 28, 2011 at 00:07:13 from 98.202.112.51

That's okay. I didn't say anything in my comment about Glen's kids rollerblading.

From Burt on Fri, Jan 28, 2011 at 00:09:54 from 72.223.90.79

LOL! Well, I guess in a way my dumb comments are endearing. Thanks for keeping it real.

Rock and roll, brother!!! I think my 10k PR is 58:xx. I despise 10k's and I loathe 5k's (because I'm a slowpoke). Mile races are fun. I wish there were more of them around here.

From Burt on Fri, Jan 28, 2011 at 00:21:09 from 72.223.90.79

Dale, you may be slow, but you're consistently slow. And there's something to be said for that.

From Dan on Fri, Jan 28, 2011 at 00:28:04 from 24.209.83.20

Congrats on the PR man! That is awesome! Now I am wondering if you had a fortune cookie that... eh never mind... congrats again!

From DaleG on Fri, Jan 28, 2011 at 00:31:41 from 152.216.7.5

After the Buffalo Run 50k, I'll have 6 months to get fast for St. George. If I could just keep a consistent 6 mph for the entire race I'd be exstatic!!! That would be nearly a one hour PR. One can dream, right?

From DaleG on Fri, Jan 28, 2011 at 00:47:09 from 152.216.7.5

Since I probably won't qualify for Boston until I'm an old geezer, St. George is my Boston.

GOOD GAME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

From Burt on Fri, Jan 28, 2011 at 01:15:52 from 72.223.90.79

Dan - Do you always smell your rice before you eat it now?

I got a 45 min. PR from my first to second marathon. I'm pretty sure I'll get another 45 min. PR the next time I run one.

Karen - ouch! That stings. Thank you.

Just saw this, good job. I also think you can go a lot faster, you ran a mile in the 5s after all.

From Burt on Sat, Jan 29, 2011 at 18:00:22 from 72.223.90.79

Merri, Seth and JD - thanks!

Flat - I thought about you today as I was at London's Run.

From JulieC on Sat, Jan 29, 2011 at 18:29:17 from 70.56.110.10
