Day 36 P90X - Chest, Shoulders & Tricep/Ab Ripper X

When I first started doing P90X I would just do enough pull-ups and push-ups, pacing myself so that I could do the same amount through the entire workout.  In other words, I would do 6 push-ups at a time, and by the time we did our last set, I could barely squeak the 6 out.  However, you're supposed to do maximum reps each time.  That means you have to feel the burn on the last three.  So that's what I've been doing lately.  Push-ups 'til I collapse.  I also am keeping a record as I go.  It's interesting to see what I can do more of this week and what I did more of last week.

Pushups are great. I always wondered if it's better to do more reps (and rest more) or, as you say, feel the burn and do max reps at one time. P90X has spoken.

Also, very cute pictures of the girls. My 4 year old has those Dora PJs too!

As far as pushups go, I've had good results with low reps/high sets and rest. But I know a guy who did 150 strict form pushups on his 2 minute PT test, and he does all his sets to failure.

My way is relatively pain free though.
