Midway is really a pretty little town.  I don't know all the history, but the little that I do know is that a LDS mission president over the European area of Switzerland, Germany, and Austria helped bring over and settle a bunch of immigrants, which accounts for the big Swiss influence in the town today.  Blogger Scott Wesemann was gracious enough to let me stay in his parent's condo for the evening before Ragnar.  Hey, what are old friends that have gone on missions for?

Scott has the manliest and whitest smile you have ever seen.  Take a look.  I could stare at those pearly whites all day.

Midway is also known for the "hot pots" that riddle the land like pock marks.  Fascinating.

After a good night's sleep in the comfort of the Wesemann condo, I got up for a run with two of my Ragnar teammates, Sundee and Marci.  We ran from their lodge up to Heber Grove, then back down to Exchange 34 of the Ragnar course.  After we left the exchange, I decided to open it up some.  It's been forever since I've pushed it to go fast.  My Garmin clocked me at 5:34, but I don't know how long that was for.  Maybe a few seconds.  It felt real good.

Good stuff! Out West is the best!

Thanks for cleaning up the place after the wild party Thurs night. My parents said it looked great. It was fun meeting you.

wohooo Burt! I am a little jealous you ran ragnar. The last 2 years I've turned down my speedy neighbors teams. I regret! Next year I am totally going to do it.

scott sure does have some pretty pearly whites. is he a dentist?

From Burt on Tue, Jun 22, 2010 at 15:48:20 from 206.19.214.144

Derunzo - I'll have to agree since I've never been out east :)

Scott - I hope your parents don't read this and find out I had a wild party.

Lily - Don't you remember? You got DENIED because you are too speedy of a chicka.

KP - He's not a dentist. He works at a nuclear power plant and does not wear the proper safety equipment.

naww you have got it wrong Burt. That was the red rock relay and it's in Sept. A guy named Kyle who lives near me is doing it. He formed a partial team but was looking for 6 others. I volunteered to help him and so did another chic to which he replied with a big fat no. He said we were both just to fast and his ego to fragile. I think the real reason was he asked his wife and SHE responded with a big fat no. Maybe I worry her? Either way, I now hope there time is slower than slow.

Oh wait, Kyle was on the Wasatch back neighborhood team, only he didn't form the team. I was invited by 3 other dudes from the hood to run it with them the last two years. I laughed and gave them a big fat no. :)

From Lily on Tue, Jun 22, 2010 at 16:33:11 from 67.199.181.73

From Lily on Tue, Jun 22, 2010 at 16:35:51 from 67.199.181.73

Oh and I am so excited to hear how Chad does in the Iron man this weekend. We should make a big sarcastic sign for his garage to send him on his way. haha

From Burt on Tue, Jun 22, 2010 at 16:49:06 from 206.19.214.144

Is that a pot hole?

From baldnspicy on Wed, Jun 23, 2010 at 07:08:44 from 72.77.109.243

Burt, my van hit a pothole like that. Looks like Midway has the same near-non-existent road budget that Pittsburgh does. Darn pothole cost me $125 for a new tire. Interesting study by a local here that was published showing that we pay something like $500/yr per car for repairs related to poor road maintenance, but if every car was taxed $250/yr we'd have the budget to maintain the roads properly (and add a bunch of jobs). Call me skeptical, but for some reason, I don't believe that my $250 tax to the government would reduce my auto repair costs.

Merri, I didn't realize we were married, but I'm happy to run it with you. lol Always fun to meet someone named Wes too!

My dad is a (retired) dentist and I have no where near pearly whites like that! Come to think of it, neither does he or anyone in our family. I'm jealous! I may need to switch industries.

I gotta say, Burt, it's so cool that you meet all these bloggers! I sure wish we could have met when I was in AZ. Three of my brothers still live in AZ. Maybe I'll get you to meet them, take a picture and say it's me. They're 1,000 times better looking than I am, especially the Iron Man one. :-)
