I was riding my bike home from work yesterday, and I was thinking about my run the other day with Glen.  I asked him if he was still planning to run the Senior Games in St. George in October.  Then Liz said, "Ha ha!  You can't do it.  You're a baby!"  But I was thinking I'd be there soon enough.  So, as I pedaled along I started wondering just how close I was.  I realized it was June 3rd.  My birthday is December 3rd.  Mark your calendars.  So, that's 6 months away.  And I'm 37 years old now.  Add the six months, that's (um, the sum of the square roots of an isosceles triangle multiplied by the derivative of sinx, carry the one) 37 and a half years old.  That's 75% of the way way to 50.  3/4 of the way to 50.  Needless to say, I suffered a minor unnecessary midlife crisis.

Today is my daughter's 14th birthday.  I'm sure she didn't mind that I took my woes out by going for a nice long run.  It was 92° when I started and 98° when I finished.  I knew I better take it nice and slow.  I ran from my house down Broadway all the way to Power Road and back.  The only time I stopped was at an occasional stop light.  And I took no water and never stopped anywhere to get some.  Some people say I'm stupid.  I say I'm old, but I'm aging gracefully.

Time - 1:40:07 (avg. pace 9:40)

Splits - 9:22, 9:24, 9:33, 9:41, 9:47, 9:40, 9:43, 9:46, 9:49, 9:49, 3:35

the square root of Burt = PRETTY COOL!

From Burt on Sat, Jun 04, 2011 at 16:36:54 from 72.223.90.79

allie - I was thinking about Running with the Devil in Boulder City NV.

Anji - sounds like fuzzy math, but I like it!

From DaleG on Sat, Jun 04, 2011 at 18:21:06 from 76.27.13.205

Nice run in the blazing heat with no water.

If you're having a midlife crisis now, wait until you turn 40...Actually, 40 wasn't that bad. When I turned 41 this year I freaked out a little....ok, I freaked out a lot.

From DaleG on Sat, Jun 04, 2011 at 18:21:19 from 76.27.13.205

Happy birthday to your daughter.

From Burt on Sat, Jun 04, 2011 at 18:25:05 from 72.223.90.79

Thanks Don Dale. You freak out about everything, though. LOL!

From DaleG on Sun, Jun 05, 2011 at 00:26:19 from 76.27.13.205

That's because I'm a freaky freak.

From DaleG on Sun, Jun 05, 2011 at 02:55:28 from 76.27.13.205

Wow, this was a slow day for your blog.

From Burt on Sun, Jun 05, 2011 at 02:59:02 from 72.223.90.79

People don't come to my blog to see that I've run 10 miles. In fact, that kind of turns them off. They want entertainment.

From bye-wing on Sun, Jun 05, 2011 at 04:20:26 from 124.121.68.218

That's why I stopped by :)

From flatlander on Sun, Jun 05, 2011 at 10:34:46 from 76.31.26.153

Your run was almost exactly the same as mine, except mine was 25-30 degrees cooler. So not exactly.

From Burt on Sun, Jun 05, 2011 at 13:54:33 from 72.223.90.79

Bye-wing - Sorry to disappoint.

Mark - My goal is to be exactly like you.

From ChrisM on Sun, Jun 05, 2011 at 16:12:18 from 82.26.197.6

Yo grandad!

I am way too busy dealing with my quarter life crisis...

From Burt on Sun, Jun 05, 2011 at 19:07:45 from 72.223.90.79

Do you need me to change your diaper, Chris?

From Bonnie on Sun, Jun 05, 2011 at 19:11:41 from 64.119.33.134

Dale - if you liked 41, just wait until 49 is just around the corner, you will LOVE that! And, it really sucks being in the oldest age in your age-group (as if looking at 50 straight in the eye wasn't bad enough).

Actually, for women, I think 40-50 is pretty cool. I don't have to try to be cute anymore, or nice, I can be cranky whenever I please -- it is expected ;-)

From Bonnie on Sun, Jun 05, 2011 at 19:13:50 from 64.119.33.134

oh, and if I miss an apostrophe here and there, I can either blame it on being old, or be cranky and say (to, well, let's say Burt), "tough tiddlywinks" (no freaking apostrophe required).

From Burt on Sun, Jun 05, 2011 at 20:13:24 from 72.223.90.79

LOL! Thanks Bonnie. I'm looking forward to the next 12.5 years! They're gonna be the best!

From Burt on Sun, Jun 05, 2011 at 20:15:39 from 72.223.90.79

Brent - Glen is 51. He's going to do the 200m, 5k, and 10k. Odd combination, I thought.

From JD on Sun, Jun 05, 2011 at 20:24:32 from 71.37.100.47

That's hot.

(My best Paris Hilton impersonation.)

From Burt on Sun, Jun 05, 2011 at 20:26:58 from 72.223.90.79

JD - She can sue you for saying that.

From Steam8 on Mon, Jun 06, 2011 at 00:29:14 from 166.70.55.77

10.4 miles in that heat without water?!! How did you do it? Someone would have had to scrape me off of the cement! Were you sick after?

From Burt on Mon, Jun 06, 2011 at 01:57:40 from 72.223.90.79

I was sick before. But I went anyway. I feel great now.

From Lily on Mon, Jun 06, 2011 at 10:56:35 from 67.199.178.210

You already know what I thought you should have done...

From julieesplin on Mon, Jun 06, 2011 at 17:56:35 from 75.169.181.7

You look like you're only 36.

From Burt on Mon, Jun 06, 2011 at 18:08:12 from 206.19.214.144

Lily - yes, I know. Zip it!

Julie - Ah thanks. That was so sweet!

From Merri on Mon, Jun 06, 2011 at 18:34:57 from 160.7.252.148

good way to beat a 3/4 of the way to 50 life crisis.

From Burt on Mon, Jun 06, 2011 at 18:57:54 from 206.19.214.144

Thanks Merri. I really felt like I gave it 75% today. I left it all out there. Except 25%. I couldn't have done it without my teammates. Which were a lizard, a crane, and a zebra. The zebra was a toy.

From SlowJoe on Mon, Jun 06, 2011 at 19:30:44 from 184.79.24.255

That's silly, I wouldn't call it a "mid-life" crisis. That would mean you'll die at age 75. Do you really think you'll make it to 75? No helmet on bike rides, no water on 95-degree runs, drinking random liquids you find on the side of the road, slapping the hood of angry motorists, etc, etc..
