I really wanted to get out and run this loop at Usery.  I've been wanting to do it for a while, but I don't think I'm ready.  I'm glad I didn't try it today.  That would have been bad.  Instead I thought I would run a 10 miler in the morning and see what I could do in the afternoon.  I started out ok just plodding along.  I got to the turn around point and slapped Not-so-Lady Liberty high five.  I had gone up 140 feet in elevation to that point so I figured it should be no problem to cruise all the way home.  But I had a pain on top of my left foot.  By the time I got to 8.4 miles it was hurting too much.  I decided it best to just walk the last two miles.  So I did.  I've also talked myself out of doing the marathon in two weeks.  I don't even think I could walk it at this point.  Hopefully I can get a deferral for next year.

Sorry about the foot. I'm sure you'll regroup and get back at it. Next year that marathon is yours!

From Burt on Mon, Feb 18, 2013 at 13:51:28 from 72.223.80.89

Thanks for the encouraging words ACornDogelius. I think I avoided doing any serious damage to it. But if I can barely make it 10 miles, there's no way I can go another 16.

From julieesplin on Tue, Feb 19, 2013 at 09:28:21 from 75.169.181.177

The "I've talked myself out of doing the marathon in two weeks" reminds me of my dad. Most people wouldn't even consider a marathon when they haven't run over 10 miles in months.

When my dad had terminal cancer I asked him what he was planning to do one week and he said, "Well, I'm afraid I'm not going to be able to run the St. George Marathon on Saturday."

From Burt on Wed, Feb 20, 2013 at 09:44:19 from 71.216.109.214

Yesterday was my dad's birthday. He would have been 64.

From Tara on Wed, Feb 20, 2013 at 18:46:13 from 75.169.137.94

Good job getting a good run in. Smart to walk and to drop out of the marathon. You'll be back Ragnar-ing it again in no time. BTW, when is that crazy race when you dress with with that team. I look forward to those posts too much. ha ha ha

Ragnar Del Sol in 2 days!

Whimp, Jack could do it.

From Burt on Wed, Feb 20, 2013 at 21:14:02 from 72.223.80.89

Jack couldn't even break out of a Chinese prison!

From Tracy on Thu, Feb 21, 2013 at 12:50:56 from 209.175.177.37

Prolly a smart idea! I hope the foot is feeling good enough to run again soon!

From Burt on Thu, Feb 21, 2013 at 13:02:41 from 72.223.80.89

That was a little too nice Tracy. I need a wedgie!

From Tracy on Thu, Feb 21, 2013 at 16:03:51 from 50.103.236.137

If it helps, I added the second sentence to nice it up a little. The first sentence is understatement.

Consider this a virtual swirlie.

Injuries suck, good luck getting back, darn, hard to miss a marathon

From PRE on Sun, Feb 24, 2013 at 10:03:09 from 99.50.213.11

Burt,

Hi. Holy Cow! I knew you had a Ragnar Relay coming up...like around today (2/24/13). But I did not know you had a marathon planned for a week later! Sorry you had to cancel the Marathon. I forget the exact date of the Relay - did you do that? Or are you still doing that? Hope the foot is healing and you'll be back to running soon. Talk to you soon.

From Burt on Sun, Feb 24, 2013 at 10:07:35 from 72.223.80.89

Brent - thanks.

PRE - The Ragnar relay was yesterday. A lot of fun. My knee barely held up.

From Lily on Tue, Feb 26, 2013 at 09:08:12 from 67.199.178.95

Hmmmmmm correct me if I am wrong here. Didn't you just kinda start back running after a hiatus? What are you thinking Burt? Crazy. You gotta remember to build up home dog slice.

From Burt on Tue, Feb 26, 2013 at 10:43:41 from 71.216.109.214

I forgot Lily. Home dog slice. Pfft! I haven't heard that since 1989.

From Tara on Tue, Feb 26, 2013 at 17:01:43 from 75.169.140.220

My three-year-old and I have been saying, "home dog slice" all day today. Ha ha ha. Never heard the word slice on the end. Makes it that much better, 89' or not.

From runningafterbabies on Tue, Feb 26, 2013 at 17:06:29 from 71.195.219.247

You were going to do the marathon? I'm sorry you got injured.

From Burt on Tue, Feb 26, 2013 at 18:03:00 from 72.223.80.89

I'm gonna slice you Tara! (said while I apply lipstick to my lips) You and Lily have really been pickin' on me lately.

Melody - I'm not "as injured" now as I was before. With my back problems last year I never was able to get into a good training mode, despite my best and optimistic intentions.

From Derunzo on Tue, Feb 26, 2013 at 18:18:41 from 24.218.176.97

Burt.... my youngest daughter Paige just saw your blog picture and said "Wait... what is that?" I told her that it was Burt with his face pasted on Yoda's head. She said... "Is he that small?" Kids are the best!

From Tara on Tue, Feb 26, 2013 at 19:24:48 from 75.169.140.220

Pft! That ain't nothin'.

From Burt on Tue, Feb 26, 2013 at 19:28:42 from 72.223.80.89

My daughter sees the picture and calls me a monster.

From julieesplin on Wed, Feb 27, 2013 at 12:11:31 from 75.169.179.98

My kids liked the Burt picture that resembled Burt from Sesame Street. They thought that was so funny and talked about it for weeks.

From Burt on Wed, Feb 27, 2013 at 14:41:40 from 71.216.109.214

That was a good one Julie. Here you go:

From Rhett on Thu, Feb 28, 2013 at 08:14:51 from 74.41.239.14

Burt, that is probably a smart choice not doing the marathon. I was hoping to see you at the start though, maybe next year.

From Burt on Thu, Feb 28, 2013 at 10:37:39 from 71.216.109.214

Rhett - I will be helping at the volunteer station at mile 7. So if you make it that far, I will see you then.

From Rhett on Thu, Feb 28, 2013 at 15:00:17 from 74.41.249.102

Burt, I better make it that far. I'll be looking for a high 5 and some energy from you.

From The Quiet Pirate on Sat, Mar 02, 2013 at 19:30:54 from 67.238.139.59

I'm pretty sure Lady Liberty slipped you something in that high 5 that's created the plethora of problems you "ran" into. When you're back in running form, Nancy Kerrigan her/him next time you run by. Cause this is Murika!
