P90X - Chest and back.

I saw an article on Active.com about proper angry motorist etiquette.

"I understand the impulse when a driver has just pulled out in front of you or turned directly in your path or otherwise behaved like a jerk. I know how much you'd love to slap the trunk of that driver's car, or shout at the person behind the wheel, helpfully suggesting that he or she "learn to drive." Or extend a certain digit in a certain direction. Do yourself — and all runners — a favor and fight that impulse. Smile. Your lashing out isn't likely to change the driver's behavior, and may, in fact, worsen it. For all you know, the still-seething guy may drive extra close to the next runner he sees, just to make a point. Let him go."

Are you having anger management issues while you run?

From Carolyn in Colorado on Tue, Mar 30, 2010 at 15:32:20 from 24.8.167.243

Good advice. Cars usually win in car vs. runner confrontations. Save your wit for the blog.

P90X = tough, or so I hear.

From RAD on Tue, Mar 30, 2010 at 15:52:36 from 67.172.229.125

excellent advice...I guess maybe I should take it :)

From Lyns on Tue, Mar 30, 2010 at 15:59:40 from 174.27.155.56

Burt I know YOU would never hit the back of someones car ;) Never!...

From Rhett on Tue, Mar 30, 2010 at 16:20:31 from 74.32.222.202

Are you feeling guilty about something Burt?

So do you think P90X will help your running, or just make you all ripped so the ladies are hanging all over you? If it is just the second, I wouldn't waste my time. :)

From Burt on Tue, Mar 30, 2010 at 17:14:41 from 206.19.214.144

Toby - well, I've never wiped a booger on anyone yet, but yes.

Carolyn - Now you tell me.

RAD - You're such a rebel. I can't see you conforming.

Lyns - maybe the side. maybe.

Rhett - With my face, I don't have to worry about the ladies. But I need to do something about this gut of mine.

I don't necessarily agree with that pacifist response. when some guy looks you straight in the eye, then purposefully guns right into you out of a ranch driveway on a deserted nevada desert when you clearly have the right of way... I'm supposed to smile at him? better to get his license number and have him cited. that would have been better than what i did do.

at least the guys who hit Steve was "just" distracted by his cell phone and didn't do it intentionally. makes no difference if he had killed him. If I had been him I would have pressed charges and called a lawyer. in the end Steve ended up in the hospital and the guy got off with no citation or anything. and the driver is probably just as stupid as he was before he hit him.

P90x is pretty rough. I've only done the AB ripper video though.

I've only pointed to a stop sign at a driver before - I should read the article before it escalates!

Always an unpredictable situation. Best to play it safe.

From Burt on Wed, Mar 31, 2010 at 12:16:47 from 206.19.214.144

I don't know Steve. Rooster makes a good point. Thanks for pulling me back to reality. I was starting to think like a liberal.

Beef - remember that time you lost your cool in the laundromat? Just take a deep breath and count to ten. :P

I admit that I have a temper and I am a bit of a hot head on very rare occasions. If someone drives to close that’s one thing but if someone swerves to try to hit me or scare the crap out of me, its game on.

My boss (huge cat 1 biker) told me this last fall about a guy who swerved into a biker. The biker got out of the way in time and hit the back of the truck (with his fist) as the guy went by.

So the idiot truck driver slams on his breaks. He is determined to teach this 5"6 135 biker a lesson. So the biker jumps off his bike dodges the first punch lands a hay maker of his own just as a few more of his biking buddies catch up and start making short work of the Red Neck.

He kicks and screams they hold him down call Highway Patrol they came cuffed him and booked him. He ended up having his license revoked, was thrown in jail and on probation. I can't remember all the details.

I've been known to carry rocks on streets but I mostly run on paths but as I mentioned I do have a temper especially when I feel physically threatened. If someone messes with you the least thing you should do is remember the license number and call the cops when you get home.

It is wise for all runners to yield to cars most stuff is accidental and Burt's right you should just move on. But if some one lays into their horn to spook you or swerves at you or yells obscenities for no reason they've got issues. Call the police.

From Scott Ensign on Thu, Apr 01, 2010 at 13:00:01 from 129.123.3.31

nice insights Matt. I tend to turn the other cheek if it is an inadvertent encounter, especially with, for example, elderly drivers who back or turn into my path. I smile and politely remind them to please be careful. My situation in the Mesquite marathon was a deliberate provoked confrontation by a redneck driver violating my rights. In retrospect it could have been very dangerous if there hadn't been two more runners nearby to hook up with for protection after I confronted him. Next time, I'll get the license number and file a police report.
