AM Bike Ride

My neighbor bought like 100 bikes from the Tucson PD and is fixing them up and selling them.  I bought a mountain bike from him a couple of weeks ago for $25.  Then I bought another one a couple of days ago.  I rode it to work this morning.  I saw two dead rabbits, one dead coyote, one dead prairie dog, and one dead black thing.  Maybe a cat?  I was waving at all the pedestrians I saw.  I surprised one lady so much as she was talking on her cell that all she could do was say hello.  I'm sure that caused some confusion on the other end.

Distance - 17.5 miles

Time - 1:20:21

Speed - 13.0 mph

PM Bike Ride

Distance - 17.5 miles

Time - 1:18:51

Speed - 13.3 mph

I started out fast, but by the time I got to Queen Creek I really slooowwwed down.  It's been a while since done that much pedalling.  I saw a car show near my house, so my son and I rode our bikes over to have a look.  My son got too close to one of the classic cars with his bike and got yelled at.  So that made a total of 37.3 miles on the day.

Nice ride... Sweet deal on the bikes as well! What kind are they?

From Burt on Fri, Apr 16, 2010 at 13:26:32 from 206.19.214.144

It's a hybrid. LOL! All the bikes were siezed from drug busts and stuff like that. So, I'm pretty sure some illegal activity has taken place on it. I'll have to see what kind it is. All I know is it got me from point A to B with a 2 on the sweat levels.

From ChrisM on Fri, Apr 16, 2010 at 14:43:38 from 82.20.234.157

See here in the UK we would just put all those bikes in a big crushing machine rather than do something useful with them!

From seeaprilrun on Fri, Apr 16, 2010 at 15:33:57 from 72.205.231.223

Wow you saw a whole trail of carnage. I'm sure your bike has been inspected so there's no dope hidden in the tires?

From KP on Fri, Apr 16, 2010 at 15:43:02 from 98.81.20.6

I've been thinking about buying a bike lately. The $25 you spent sounds better than the $699 I've been thinking about spending. Hmmmm... will you ship me one from AZ?

From Scott Wesemann on Fri, Apr 16, 2010 at 16:06:44 from 66.239.250.209

You saw a lot of animals, but did you see anything resembling a trailer hitch?

From Burt on Fri, Apr 16, 2010 at 16:16:13 from 206.19.214.144

Chris - No you wouldn't. I've seen the videos. You would use them to chase a block of cheese down a steep hill.

April - I'll get a drug sniffing dog to inspect it. I hear there's one in KP's neighborhood.

KP - No.

Scott - No trailer hitches, thank goodness. lol!

Interesting assortment of roadkill. Here, no one ever picks them up so I get to step over them and see them slowly decompose over weeks and months. The black thing might be a skunk - there's a gross one on one of my routes that's down to fur and hide now.

That's a good idea Burt

I think adding some bicycles to the mix will be interesting!

I've always wanted to do some biking but cars scare me too much.

From Burt on Sat, Apr 17, 2010 at 12:07:29 from 98.177.220.145

Joe - I did see a dead skunk on the way home.

Chris - I like the part at the end when they haul someone off on a stretcher and everyone cheers. You're only supposed to cheer when they get up and walk off on their own two feet!

Beef - Oddly enough, I felt more comfortable with the traffic on the slower bike. Plus a couple of times I got off the road all together. It's nice to be able to do that with a mountain bike.

From KP on Sat, Apr 17, 2010 at 12:32:01 from 98.81.20.6

I saw a fox and a scorpion on my run this morning. I didn't even know we had scorpions in Alabama.

From Burt on Sat, Apr 17, 2010 at 12:37:34 from 98.177.220.145

I don't think we have foxes in AZ. Except for my wife :)

Technical questions: can you post pictures in a comment? I have a picture from Missy's race today, that I want to post in one of her comments. If so, HOW? So frustrating!

From Toby on Sat, Apr 17, 2010 at 21:59:03 from 216.194.124.36

Nice riding Burt! What kind of bike did you get? I think biking is SO much harder than running. You have to propel 2 things instead of 1!

From Burt on Sun, Apr 18, 2010 at 03:16:19 from 98.177.220.145

Sam - thanks!

Toby - You can't post them in the comment section :( I guess my bike is a Rock Hopper. I'm not an expert on bikes, so don't ask anything more than that. I just know it moves when I pedal it.

From Samantha Dean-Howard on Sun, Apr 18, 2010 at 04:59:38 from 90.201.147.150

oh no riding is harder than running I dont thinks so....me thinks running is harder than riding by far you use all your muscles, arms, core everything to propel you along the road by foot and on a bike well your sat down !

sorry Toby I quite disagree but on a nice note in a nice way no hard feelings :-)

Good training Burt!
