I finally took Vinh's and Lyman's advice and went for a nice slow run.  (Sorry for those of you I just offended for saying 9:25 pace is slow.)  It was really nice out.  I thought for sure it was going to rain because I washed three vehicles yesterday.  I got about half a mile into the run and tried to pass some egg nog, but when the prarie dog started poking its head out, I immediately stomped on the brakes on that idea.  That would have to happen to me on the day I decide to go real slow.  It made the last two miles brutal.  Even with the slow pace I saw someone way up on the sidewalk walking along.  I figured I might pass them so I was playing out the scenario in my head on how I would have to say, "On your left."  Just then I heard, "On your right."  I knew who it was.  It was On-Your-Right-Bicycle-Girl again.  I wonder where she goes.  She always has this yellow back pack on, and she just pedals on down Rittenhouse Road.  Anyway I said good morning to her and told her it was nice to see her again.  I'm sure she has a pet name for me, too.

Time - 52:42 (avg. pace 9:25)

Splits - 9:27, 9:21, 9:18, 9:25, 9:34, 5:39 for 0.60 (9:26 pace)

Here's a couple more pictures from last week's marathon:

This is my Derek Zoolander Blue Steel pose.

Gary and Sandy (not necessarily in that order.)  They can't take a bad picture.

This is at the Hoover Dam.  I can't believe how much the water level has gone down.

I remember when the water surface was up to that second tier beneath that bridge.  It's kind of scary actually.

I think her pet name for you was 'the guy who smells like eggnog'

Nice Blue Steel look. You could be a running model for sure.

Sorry Burt! I didn't check the blog until late, and then when I did, all my brothers decided that they needed to take Ben out shooting this morning. They were gone from 7-12:30. So we were forced to do our run at 5 AM. It seemed a little late at 11:30PM to call you and invite you for a 5AM run, so...We almost ran down Rittenhouse, but we ran down Queen Creek instead. Missed you by one block! I wish I could have gotten a glimpse of On-Your-Right-Bicycle-Girl. Bummer. Maybe next time. Hey! Where did you get the pics of the marathon? :D

From Lyman on Sat, Nov 28, 2009 at 22:19:30 from 75.169.106.214

At the risk of sounding a little weird from a guy...you are looking much thinner than your profile picture.

From Burt on Sat, Nov 28, 2009 at 22:49:57 from 98.177.216.165

Lyns - That would be appropriate.

auntieem - I practiced that pose for a month.

Cathy - I'm pretty sure I was up that late. I didn't get out until 9am. When do you guys leave? Hope you enjoyed Thanksgiving out here. My wife took the pictures. You know, Six Kid Mom.

Lyman - that's not weird at all. It's romantic. My profile pic was taken in May. I was about 198 then. When I started the marathon I was about 195. That picture was taken at the end. I was probably about 185 by then.

NICE recovery run! Great pix! I was at Hoover Dam on Halloween...nice place to visit...can't believe how blue the water in Lake Mead is!

See the Dam garage in the backgroud? That's mile 6 of the Hoover Dam Marathon...running down the 4'wide switch backs to the top level of the garage; then back up was the silliest part of the course!

From Burt on Sat, Nov 28, 2009 at 23:43:41 from 98.177.216.165

Smooth - that sounds like a dam fun race. Those dam switchbacks must have been hard. I hope they had some dam good aid stations. Hopefully you avoided the dam traffic.

Nice run Burt! Hopefully you felt better after the run. Wow, can't believe Hoover Dam is that low these days...it's been years since I last saw it though.

From Bec on Sun, Nov 29, 2009 at 18:24:42 from 67.177.35.60

I like the pictures! I think your face is almost half-way smiling. I know at that point my face was probably on the ground. How far away the dam from Mesquite? Kinda fun that you went there.

Already that marathon seems like it was 2 months ago.

From Burt on Sun, Nov 29, 2009 at 19:59:32 from 98.177.216.165

Sam - Next time I'll ask her if she likes that name for me. (You know I'll do it, too.)

Vinh - I grew up in Kingman, and my grandparents lived in Vegas, so we used to drive over it all the time. I've seen it when it's overflowing. But I've never seen it that incredibly low.

Bec - It's probably 100 miles away. Vegas is 70 miles from Mesquite and the Dam is 30 miles from Vegas. I'm not sure if it would have been faster to go up through Flagstaff and then through St. George, but with both our parents living in Kingman, of course we take that route. So, are you ready for your next marathon?

Hi Burt, Thank you for your warm welcome. :) I used to live in Gilbert, I wonder if we crossed paths running one day. I like how you put pictures inside your blog message. How do I do that? My blog is so boring. LOL.
