I felt a lot better this morning.  Still I kept it slow.  My Lady Liberty wasn't there this morning, but I did get a patriotic slap to the face by an American flag.  I should watch where I'm going.  Then when I turned the corner onto Southern I saw a different Lady Liberty, but this was a young African American dude.  He didn't look all that happy to be there and seemed to be living inside his mind.  As soon as I put my hand up for a high five I could see in his eyes that he had come back to reality, and he knew right away how it important it was to reciprocate that high five; a high five to let freedom ring.

I continued on and saw a lady crossing the street by the canal.  She had a pretty big dog.  I wondered if I could beat her by staying on the street while she cut across along the canal.  She beat me.  But she had to wait to cross the road again and I went to pass her.  I told her good job and put my hand out for a five.  She nervously gave me a five back, and her dog got a little protective.  I won't be doing that again.

Time - 47:48 (avg. pace 8:41)

Splits - 8:49, 8:32, 8:33, 8:48, 8:43, 4:25

Long live the People's Mesh!

From SlowJoe on Wed, Feb 09, 2011 at 13:39:05 from 131.59.200.82

Man, I never have any adventures on my lonely roads. Just a lot of roadkill sightings.

Sounds like you were 1 for 2 at brightening people's day today, that ain't bad!

From Burt on Wed, Feb 09, 2011 at 13:45:19 from 206.19.214.144

Merri - that mesh made a mesh of my face. I've got a red, white, and blue bruise now.

Joe - I saw a dead cat in the gutter this morning. Does that brighten your day? 2 for 3?

From Lily on Wed, Feb 09, 2011 at 13:55:22 from 67.199.181.73

I shy away from ultra outgoing people like you. :)

From Burt on Wed, Feb 09, 2011 at 14:17:29 from 206.19.214.144

Of course you do Lily. You're one of the Beautiful People. You can't be seen mingling with us peasants.

From Lily on Wed, Feb 09, 2011 at 14:29:29 from 67.199.181.73

I wouldn't mingle with you, but I'll run with you instead. No high 5's with your sweaty palms now ya hear

From RAD on Wed, Feb 09, 2011 at 15:24:11 from 67.172.229.125

I love the camaraderie an upheld hand waiting for a '5' brings. Dogs just don't understand.

From Burt on Wed, Feb 09, 2011 at 15:36:52 from 206.19.214.144

Lily - both Black Liberty and dog woman were wearing gloves this morning. Wimps!

RAD - you get me.

From JamesH on Wed, Feb 09, 2011 at 15:48:01 from 74.211.22.194

She was hesitant because you probably had on your "creepy serial murderer" face when you went for the '5'.

From Burt on Wed, Feb 09, 2011 at 15:59:39 from 206.19.214.144

I can't help it James. It's creepy serial murderer week on the Chiller channel.

From Shimelle on Wed, Feb 09, 2011 at 16:11:06 from 208.38.194.203

Just so you know, I ran 1/2 mile more than you today!

From Burt on Wed, Feb 09, 2011 at 16:14:22 from 206.19.214.144

I can't beat you today Park Nelson! That's it. It's on!

From Shimelle on Wed, Feb 09, 2011 at 16:15:56 from 208.38.194.203

Well, I'm not running anymore today so you might do it. Bet you can't guess how far I'm going tomorrow.

From Burt on Wed, Feb 09, 2011 at 16:17:05 from 206.19.214.144

I'm just going to run all day tomorrow. Good luck keeping up.

From Shimelle on Wed, Feb 09, 2011 at 16:18:42 from 208.38.194.203

Fine...I'll run 6 more tonight just so you have to run even further tomorrow, Forest!

From Burt on Wed, Feb 09, 2011 at 16:25:47 from 206.19.214.144

Is this because I said - In your face Shimelle! - last week?

From Shimelle on Wed, Feb 09, 2011 at 16:29:47 from 208.38.194.203

Yep:) And now, I just kicked your can at WT. MANTRA is the word Burt, MANTRA!

From Burt on Wed, Feb 09, 2011 at 16:35:58 from 206.19.214.144

From april27 on Wed, Feb 09, 2011 at 19:00:43 from 99.188.251.180

I was going to suggest never offering a high five to a person with a dog! that is crazy!

From catherine on Wed, Feb 09, 2011 at 19:13:52 from 204.99.177.38

I'm glad you're feeling better!

From Burt on Wed, Feb 09, 2011 at 19:35:31 from 206.19.214.144

April - now you tell me?

Catherine - thanks! You're my new best friend.

From Karen on Wed, Feb 09, 2011 at 23:25:20 from 69.171.160.36

WHAT! You have a new best friend? sigh...first the janitors, now you?

From Burt on Thu, Feb 10, 2011 at 01:43:40 from 72.223.90.79

Karen - sorry you can't hug the janitors anymore :(

From Karen on Thu, Feb 10, 2011 at 16:21:48 from 173.14.8.17

I waved at them yesterday...we'll see if that had any effect on the track conditions...

From Brent on Thu, Feb 10, 2011 at 23:02:29 from 66.7.127.219

Burt, low five a few janitors, see what happens, hug lady liberty, this will really mess up the natural order of things.

From Karen on Thu, Feb 10, 2011 at 23:28:08 from 69.171.160.108

I can just see it now...all over America , FRB'ers are high fiving liberties, hugging janitors and good gaming unsuspecting bystanders. What a great world we would have!

From Burt on Fri, Feb 11, 2011 at 17:35:29 from 206.19.214.144

From runningafterbabies on Sat, Feb 12, 2011 at 11:36:49 from 24.10.211.135

Some people just don't appreciate a friendly gesture.

From Burt on Sat, Feb 12, 2011 at 15:25:09 from 72.223.90.79

Steve - I never learn.

Melody - That's why I'm here. To educate the world.
