A family I got to church with lost their baby to meningitis.  They put on a 5k to raise funds for the funeral expenses.  This is taken from the facebook page:

Briana Louise Dimon came into this life on August 26, 2011. For the first five weeks, she lived the life of an average and very cuddly newborn baby girl. On October 1, 2011, Briana woke up with very high temperature and rushed to the hospital. After receiving breathing and other treatments, she was admitted to Cardon Children's Hospital and quickly diagnosed with Strep B Meningitis. It was discovered that, due to seizures and other issues, the other half of her brain was damaged and if she did survive it, she would have little to no quality of life. With much prayer and fasting from many in the community, we decided we needed to let our sweet little one return to Our Father In Heaven. Briana passed away 7 weeks to the day she was born surrounded by her loving parents and family. Although she was with us for such a short time, our little Bri touched numerous lives from many various places and situations. We will always remember the love and happiness Bri brought to our lives, and look forward to seeing her in the Eternity's to come.

I had no intention of running fast.  I thought maybe I'd run with Bishop Stradling.  Then I saw Mike King and decided to run with him.  I was thinking I'd like to run a 9min. pace, since that's all I ever run anymore.  But we ran a bit faster.  Scott LeSeuer was right behind us the whole time just like he said he would be.  I told him that if our backsides fall off, just scoop them up and give them to us at the finish line.  I was kind of surprised that he stayed with us the whole time.  He's old and doesn't look like he's in that good of shape.  But I guess we were only running an 8:18 pace.  He caught up to us at the end and I was hoping we'd all do the honorable thing and cross the line together.  But Mike sped up to finish a step ahead of us.

I felt good and my hamstring didn't bother me.  I'm sure I could have run faster.  Way faster.  But not all races are races.

Splits - 8:08, 8:28, 8:21

Great job Burto!

Sad - I have a soft spot for baby girls. Glad you could support them by running the race.

Children's funerals are the most poignant, thanks for sharing the racing background. I know you have a soft spot for kids.

Choke - thanks man.

Joe - apparently all I produce is daughters. I know about the soft spot.

Flat - as a youth I remember a lady in our ward bear her testimony about how she knew her kids wouldn't die because the Lord doesn't give us trials that we aren't strong enough to overcome. I'm happy to report her children are still alive.

Nice race (good even splits), nice cause (no one should have to lose a child), and nice hamstrings.

Chad - I thought you were quoting Lord of the Rings - The Twin Towers at first. Thanks for liking my hamstrings.

I hate the baby section of a cemetery. I say a little prayer when I do run by. Nice race even if you didn't race it.

I about cried reading the story. I'm glad you went out and supported the cause.

From Merri on Mon, Dec 12, 2011 at 15:46:09 from 160.7.252.148

Oh what a sad story. Good job at running for a good cause. Will you send me their fb link? Do they have somewhere you can donate?

From RAD on Mon, Dec 12, 2011 at 17:22:40 from 98.202.23.178

Few words can describe the love and sympathy for this family in my heart right now. Thanks for support them Burty, you're one awesome guy.

"For those who can't make it to the 5k, but still would like to donate: We have set up an account with Chase Bank if you're interested. The account # is 3040146528. I hope this helps, and we hope everyone there, but understand if you're not able to make it." - Robert Dimon

My daughter had Strep B Meningitis when she was 15 months old.

From Tara on Thu, Dec 15, 2011 at 00:18:14 from 75.169.144.128

Way to run Burt! Next time do the honorable thing and elbow him just before passing to the finish. I do that and it works every time. I think that's appropriate, even at an event like this.

From ACorn on Thu, Dec 15, 2011 at 02:35:33 from 24.2.76.146

Great run for a great cause!

Way to go amigo.

Great cause, Burt. And nice run!

From Burt on Thu, Dec 15, 2011 at 17:24:58 from 72.223.93.131

Julie - that's horrible. You must've been terrified.

Tara - I have been known to elbow people right at the end :)

ACorn and auntieem - thanks!
