Running

My legs are still tight from Ragnar.  I just didn't have the spring in my step that I usually do.  Splits - 1mile - 8:13, 2 mile - 8:22, 3 mile - 8:30, 4 mile - 8:32, 5 mile - 8:16, 0.64 mile - 4:54 (7:41 avg.)  Overall average - 8:18.  Overall time - 46:47.

AM Bike

I rode my bike to work for the first time in over two months.  17.62 miles in 1 hour and 11 minutes.  Average speed 14.9 mph.  Max speed 19.8 mph.

PM Bike

17.59 miles home in 1 hour and 6 minutes.  Average speed 16.0 mph.  Max speed 23.6 mph.  I tried to ride behind this guy with big calves all decked out in his bike gear.  He was too fast for me and lost me at a stop light.  I probably look goofy in my work clothes and my pants tucked into my sock.

Burt, I see some serious running in you now. Super work...keep going!

Nice running and biking :) Congratulations on an awesome ragnar! You guys are too cool!

You go!

From James W on Tue, Mar 03, 2009 at 15:58:43 from 12.151.72.1

road bike or mountain bike (even more impressive if it was a mountain bike)?

From Burt on Tue, Mar 03, 2009 at 16:03:32 from 68.76.197.194

Thanks guys. Road bike. I bought one last year when gas prices were getting out of control.

From Camille on Tue, Mar 03, 2009 at 19:18:16 from 71.223.90.219

way to ride and run! :o)

From Brent on Tue, Mar 03, 2009 at 21:49:28 from 66.7.127.219

Burt, like your style, put the team first - take one for the team. No doubt, without Gwen, you will exceed your goals. The spirit of commando points, your team had the spirit - 1,000 commando points to everyone on the team and another 500 to you and the team leader. Say Hi to James W and Lybi.

The bike commute - rode all last summer - great way to get some cross training.

No marathon time is too embarrasing to post, the toughest of times, lead to great times. Every journey has a story, running is a game of highs and lows, respect the lows, enjoy the highs for a moment and move on to the next challenge.

wow on the bike miles, super!

From Camille on Tue, Mar 03, 2009 at 22:26:27 from 71.223.90.219

Brent - I like what you said about the highs and lows of the game. Very inspiring.

You just inspired me to do do a fast 5 miles. They are my first since Ragnar and I am also feeling a bit stiff. However, I feel much better for getting back into the swing of things. Thanks Burt! Who knows, I may even fill up my bike tires...

From sam on Wed, Mar 04, 2009 at 06:15:38 from 78.32.130.9

Hey Burt, great on the bike, thatll help on recovery, just be shore to stretch your hammies more than usual, biking shortens them!

great run too after Ragnor, way cool! So wish we had something like that over here, we have ultra runs but nothing like that!

From Eric Day on Thu, Mar 05, 2009 at 11:39:22 from 200.52.202.163

no more runs?

From Burt on Thu, Mar 05, 2009 at 11:43:04 from 68.76.197.194

I'll be going on a long one tonight.

From Eric Day on Thu, Mar 05, 2009 at 12:03:48 from 200.52.202.163

Excellent, good luck and keep it safe!

From Kelli on Thu, Mar 05, 2009 at 15:54:50 from 71.219.75.10

Burt, you kill me. Look at those splits for someone who did not have "spring in his step." I think you are fast and you do not even know it.

Great job and WOW on the biking to work. Do they have showers at your work cause AZ is just way too hot to ride your bike to work and then not shower!

From Burt on Thu, Mar 05, 2009 at 16:04:39 from 68.76.197.194

Kelli - the trick is to find just the right speed that you generate enough of a breeze to keep you cool and not overwork yourself. (I'm sure that actually defies the laws of thermodynamics.) The real trick is to sweat just the tiniest bit that the breeze can keep you cool - then try to avoid human interaction at work. Of course, in the summer, no amount of breeze or sweat can keep you cool.

From Camille on Thu, Mar 05, 2009 at 16:38:41 from 75.171.26.130

Kelli - as some one who use to work with burt on bike days... I can testify to what he said. :o)

I love that quote! From one of Lisa's perpetual motion inventions, right?

From Burt on Thu, Mar 05, 2009 at 17:01:25 from 68.76.197.194

So that's why you always hung out at my office on those days, Camille. You enjoyed my musk.

From Camille on Thu, Mar 05, 2009 at 19:24:34 from 71.223.90.219

No. that's why on those days I always pretended to have allergy problems... my watery eyes and irritated nose was not a result of the seasons (especially since we don't have seasons here). LOL

From smally on Mon, Mar 09, 2009 at 13:57:39 from 209.195.93.14

Your too funny.

Hardly world record time but thanks anyway.

From rattletrap on Wed, Mar 11, 2009 at 11:22:14 from 70.192.112.139

That's awesome that you bike to work! I used to bike 16 miles each way for about a year until I moved closer to work. Now it's only 2 miles. I don't think that's even enough to count as cross training.

AZ does have seasons: North-wind and South-wind :)
