What a beautiful morning for getting on the front page of the mileage board.  Should people aspire to get on the the front page of the mileage board?  Heck ya!  Whatever motivates you.  I did my 5.6 mile WalMart bypass loop.  I heard a cock crow right before the sun broke the horizon.  I got to the '2 miles to go' point and realized I needed to stop at the bank and make a deposit, if you know what I mean.  With 1 mile to go I was hoping I wasn't going to overdraw my account, if you catch my drift.  As I reached my driveway I was hoping nobody was watching me because I was doing the tight-legged walk to the front door.

After balancing my check book, if you smell what I'm cooking, I went back out the door for my second lap.  At the end of my street I darted out in front of my wife who was coming back from dropping my boy off at the bus stop.  Now I was regretting not taking the time to put some more body glide under my arms where my sleeveless body armor shirt was rubbing me raw.  Other than that thought, I was feeling really good this morning.

What comes around goes around.  At about mile 9.3 I heard a soft gentle female voice say, "On your left."  It kind of startled me.  Mostly because I was surprised to hear a soft gentle female voice uttering those words.  How could someone of the female species with such a pleasant sounding voice be passing me?  I turned around and saw that she was on a bicycle.  I tried to act cool like nothing happened, but I'm sure she saw the shiver go down my spine.

At mile 10.2 as I was approaching the elementary school my 6 year old goes to I came upon a mother, a daugher, a son, and a dog.  As the mother and dog were hugging the left side of the sidewalk, I made sure to yell to them loud enough and early enough to warn them.  "On your right!"  The mother turned around and saw me.  The son didn't have a clue.  She desperately tried to get the stubborn kid to move out of my way.  He reminded me of my kids when we tell them to do something, and they have to know why first.  I was thinking, "This is one of those situations where you yell at your kid to get out of the street before they get hit by the car, and they don't listen.  Ma'am, would you like me to smack him upside the head?"  Ultimately I had to run off the sidewalk and around him.  But instead of saying what I thought, I mustered up my nicest voice and said, "Good morning."

At mile 10.6 after I'd passed the elementary school a young boy was riding by on his bike.  I usually don't say anything to the kids, because you can't in this day and age.  But he surprised me with a hello.  So I said good morning to the next kid that came by on his bike and got nothing.

I ran by my house just as my wife was backing out to take the other kids to school.  I motioned to her that I would be doing one more mile.  That would put me over 12 miles for the run, and should at least allow me to be on the first page of the mileage board for a little while, even if it doesn't last the day.  My 12th mile was my one and only mile over a 9 minute pace.  What was that all about?  Oh well.  I still felt really good.  Must have been the chili dogs and ice cream I had last night.

Time - 1:46:30 (avg. pace 8:41)

Splits - 8:33, 8:32, 8:37, 8:42, 8:41, 8:45, 8:36, 8:45, 8:49, 8:37, 8:38, 9:01, 2:15 (8:42 pace)

From allie on Mon, Oct 26, 2009 at 16:51:36 from 67.177.43.41

Nice run. Great post as usual.

Hey, Burt, I just checked, and you are on the first page, and so am I! I wonder what we have to do to stay there. GREAT MILES!

Hilarious blog entry; your experience with "on your left" reminds me of the movie "Spanglish". The woman character in there is a runner, and she sort of reminds me of myself (the worst side of myself). She's one of the funniest movie characters ever

From seeaprilrun on Mon, Oct 26, 2009 at 18:12:24 from 205.172.12.230

Nice run. It read like a storybook. You should write children's books--I bet you could illustrate them by yourself too using photos and your workmanship.

From Kelli on Mon, Oct 26, 2009 at 18:13:00 from 71.219.97.106

Awesome run Burt. And congrats on the high mileage for the week so far, a very worthy goal.

Funny report. I am glad the bank let you in to make your deposit, I think I would lock the doors.

It's Halloween week, so everyone gets nicknames.

Eerie Day - It's all good now, but it's time to put more money in the bank. I don't know what that means.

Spooky Smoothy - glad I could crack you up. I hear that's hard to do, Mrs. Serious.

Sad-Mean Howler - did she really die?

Gory Lori - my first nick name of the week, thanks.

Rat - I hope you didn't laugh so hard that you got a hernia.

allie cat - I'm not sure I know what you mean. I'm just glad nobody stole my identity. How sweet of you to root for the Cardinals.

RivertonGhoul - thanks.

Haunt-i-em - I finally got bumped off the first page. And I need to watch that movie again. It's been a while.

SeeaprilRIP - if you liked today's entry, you're going to love tomorrow's. Just love it.

Killy - Yeah, it would be best to lock yourself inside the vault.

From Nan Kennard on Mon, Oct 26, 2009 at 22:00:47 from 174.51.250.151

Bat-Thanks for the laugh. I'm glad you didn't have to take out loan too. Running shorts dont offer a very high credit limit. I actually had to take a loan once. Not my prettiest moment.

From RAD on Mon, Oct 26, 2009 at 22:51:46 from 76.27.12.70

Nice work! I love reading your entries...always entertaining :) I've never heard the 'loan' analogy before, but I laughed the whole way through it! Glad you got front page billing, I don't think I've ever achieved that :( Maybe I'll save my long run for next Monday to see if I can do it!

From Burt on Tue, Oct 27, 2009 at 02:04:09 from 98.167.151.26

Frankennardestein - I bet. And they got all those cameras all over the bank, too.

Rabid RAD - Do it. It's all about the glory.

From sam Dean-Howard on Tue, Oct 27, 2009 at 04:18:54 from 90.201.147.206

Way to go Burt! And I thought that I was the only one that ran long runs on Monday mornings.

From Burt on Tue, Oct 27, 2009 at 11:05:44 from 98.167.151.26

Sam - you're Sad Mean Howler. See, I took the d and switched it with the m. Clever, huh? Then instead of calling you coward, I said howler, because werewolves howl.

Mummy Mcclellan - you ran some serious miles yesterday. Keep up the good work.

From sam Dean-Howard on Tue, Oct 27, 2009 at 16:40:44 from 90.201.147.206

I will tell you my real name is Fig Bat Kerj. Wonder if you can come up with any nickname for me.

From Burt on Tue, Oct 27, 2009 at 16:50:40 from 68.76.197.194

From Burt on Wed, Oct 28, 2009 at 15:18:18 from 68.76.197.194

Queen Zumba Zombie - go shove some more vowels in your last name, why don't ya.

From Burt on Wed, Oct 28, 2009 at 15:19:01 from 68.76.197.194

By the way, since I put Tristan and Isolde in my queue, you have to put Ping Pong Playa in yours. Booyah!

From Lyns on Wed, Oct 28, 2009 at 15:28:52 from 75.162.105.57

Ping pong playa .... what?!?

From Burt on Wed, Oct 28, 2009 at 15:33:18 from 68.76.197.194

It's about a Chinese guy that thinks he's black. He says booyah all the time, so that's why I thought of it. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0991167/
