Something strange happened today.  The Palo Verde trees were bent and twisted in different angles than usual.  The sidewalk seemed to meander in a different pattern.  Bushes had sprung up from whence they were not before.  Ah dang!  I missed my turn.

so you ran a new route today...on accident. I love exploring while running. I bet it was fun. Is it me, or are you times getting faster?

From Burt on Tue, Apr 14, 2009 at 12:00:12 from 68.76.197.194

Rhett - I've been meaning to go that way for quite some time now, but I've wanted to do it around 6 in the afternoon. Let me explain. I run down Rittenhouse Road. Rittenhouse has historically been a frontage road to the rail road tracks. It cuts through the southeast valley at a 45 degree angle. Before some of the roads got improved out here, everybody would use Rittenhouse. It still gets used quite a bit because of the ease of "cutting" through. Plus with all of the farm land out here, many of the main roads don't always go all the way through. Now in the afternoon, during rush hour, the traffic starts to crawl from about the place where I missed my turn to out past Schnepf Farms. Schnepf Farms is a local fun place to take the kids. It's kind of like Knott's Berry Farm divided by 100. They have a train, pumpkin launcher, merry-go-round, and other things. It's the host site for London's Run. Also, during fall, they have some fun festivities for Halloween. Then the train ride becomes haunted. People come from all over the valley. That's when the traffic gets really bad. So, to bring closure to this story, I want to be able to run all the way down Rittenhouse passing all the traffic, then laugh at everyone as I'm coming back. It's my dream.

But to answer your question, yes my times are coming down. I think Easter may have set me back a few weeks, but on the whole, they are coming down.

Nice run! Sounds like you have a nice route. Good pace too.

From Kelli on Tue, Apr 14, 2009 at 12:29:00 from 71.219.84.191

Nice splits, Burt. Sorry about the wrong turn, but a change of scenery is a good thing.

From Burt on Tue, Apr 14, 2009 at 12:44:59 from 68.76.197.194

Lori - Thanks. It's a very flat route. I'm going to need to start doing some hill training soon.

Kelli - it was a change of scenery, but just slight. It took me about 0.15 mi. to notice it. I think it was more of a feeling than a visual stimulation of the "something's not right" nerves.

From Burt on Tue, Apr 14, 2009 at 12:46:47 from 68.76.197.194

Kelli - my wife thinks you're awesome because you want me to do all the excersizing for her.

Don't forget to refresh my page so you can see my new picture with the mile three girls.

From Kelli on Tue, Apr 14, 2009 at 13:14:27 from 71.219.84.191

I am awesome, and I think you should do all of the work and she should reap all of the benefits! That is how life should be. Wish I could burn as many calories as Scott does in a day (or that I had is will power to eat good food).

I have seen this picture. I think it looks like they are laughing at you. They weren't, right? Glad you kicked their skinny butts!

From rattletrap on Tue, Apr 14, 2009 at 13:25:53 from 70.193.46.152

Hills are your friend. Most people don't like to run hills at all so if you learn to like them you'll find yourself passing a lot more racers when things get tough :) And just think about all the extra calories you'll burn for your wife :)

From Rhett on Tue, Apr 14, 2009 at 14:13:43 from 170.215.58.122

I love the long story.

From Eric Day on Tue, Apr 14, 2009 at 14:26:17 from 189.192.148.17

Two days in a row running? Impressive Burt. You are faster then me!

From Burt on Tue, Apr 14, 2009 at 14:39:36 from 68.76.197.194

Kelli - Eric said the same thing. I told him they probably were. But in truth, there was this photographer snapping pictures of the runners as we crossed the London Bridge. There was a big pack of us there and most of the people in front of me were acting silly.

Mike - LOL. I used to do hills when I lived closer to them. The San Tan Mts. are just to the south of me, but I don't know if there are any good trails I could go running on.

Eric - I'm only faster than you because of your injury. Your HM time is like 4 or 5 minutes faster than mine (si sirve la memoria.)

From Kelli on Tue, Apr 14, 2009 at 16:14:04 from 71.219.84.191

I am SURE they were not laughing at you---you were BEATING them!!!!

From Burt on Tue, Apr 14, 2009 at 22:16:34 from 98.167.151.26

Maybe my backside was exposed. I thought I felt a breeze.

From Kelli on Tue, Apr 14, 2009 at 23:25:59 from 71.219.84.191

Okay, well that would do it!

From montelepsy on Wed, Apr 15, 2009 at 02:10:56 from 155.85.58.253

I bet that feeling of something's not right can be developed into a full blown "spidey sense". It won't be too long before you're dodging bullets.

From Lucia on Wed, Apr 15, 2009 at 11:53:50 from 74.9.147.114

Lucky you - I can't afford the luxury of taking the wrong turn, or I end up in the danger zone, though that'd make me run REALLY fast, dodging bullets and all! Mike, you probably are in a similar situation, or is it safe where you are?

From montelepsy on Wed, Apr 15, 2009 at 13:29:56 from 155.85.58.253

We're definitely safer than DC :) We had a rocket attack on election day, but nothing significant on base since then.

From sam on Wed, Apr 15, 2009 at 18:03:15 from 90.201.147.25
