I didn't go running, but I did go on a 10 mile hike with the Boy Scouts.  This trail was ranked a 5 out of 5 for difficulty from AZ trails.  I'm very sore, but I had a great time.  I don't have a real backpacking backpack.  I used my sports backpack.  Since I'm such a stud, I was able to haul it the whole way, but I will admit, my shoulders are very sore.  And my legs are sore.  And my feet are sore.  And my head is a little sore from a slight sunburn even though I put on sunblock twice.  Maybe I'll post pictures later.

My brain is sore from reading that. Fun stuff. I hope it was not too hot!

From azdesertmonsoon on Sun, Mar 29, 2009 at 00:00:28 from 63.228.146.159

Which Trail? If I had to guess I would say Siphon Draw/Flatiron. But if that is the case you aren't giving yourself enough distance, I think that is more like 6, unless you cheated on the starting point.

From Camille on Sun, Mar 29, 2009 at 00:00:44 from 71.223.67.112

Brandon and I are curious as to which trail you and the boyscouts took.

From Burt on Sun, Mar 29, 2009 at 00:10:49 from 98.167.151.26

We went about 5 miles south of Superior and then hiked to Devil's Canyon.

From Camille on Sun, Mar 29, 2009 at 00:13:03 from 71.223.67.112

Brandon says he could hike that in his sleep. LOL With his spranged knee... carrying your backpack.

From Burt on Sun, Mar 29, 2009 at 00:17:21 from 98.167.151.26

Well, Brandon's an animal. I still think it was hard.

From Burt on Sun, Mar 29, 2009 at 00:18:19 from 98.167.151.26

You are going to have to explain to me what a spranged knee is though. Is he a robot with springs in his knee joints?

From Camille on Sun, Mar 29, 2009 at 00:20:05 from 71.223.67.112

Brandon says it's like a spranged ankle... but really, it's what happens when you are at work and your father drops a bunch of wood on your knee while moving lumber. I still love my father in law though... barely. LOL.

It's was really nasty, all black and blue.

From azdesertmonsoon on Sun, Mar 29, 2009 at 01:17:50 from 63.228.146.159

Did you rappel or jump?

From Burt on Sun, Mar 29, 2009 at 01:29:12 from 98.167.151.26

Some of the scouts jumped off the 12 foot cliff. I chickened, I mean, opted not to.

From azdesertmonsoon on Sun, Mar 29, 2009 at 02:26:59 from 63.228.146.159

I think I can explain the spranged knee. When you said Brandon was an animal you stumbled on the answer. He is part tigger and as everyone knows Tigger's exceptional bouncing abilities can be attributed to the fact that Tiggers have tops made of rubber and bottoms made of springs.

From montelepsy on Sun, Mar 29, 2009 at 10:00:04 from 155.85.58.253

Why do you attempt activities that you aren't equipped for? Running without proper fitting shorts, backpacking with out a proper backpack... Just don't take up skydiving.

From Burt on Sun, Mar 29, 2009 at 14:36:48 from 98.167.151.26

I'm just a glutton for punishment. Skydiving...now there's an idea.

From sam on Sun, Mar 29, 2009 at 14:43:59 from 90.195.99.182

Cool I love hiking, not sure on skydiving though, too much cold air LOL.

Sounds like me, with this will make do idea, hahahaha

I thought my sons back pack would do for carrying my water once on a long run, blisters on my back, not sure hubby was convinced it was the backpack LOL :)

From Tracy1 on Sun, Mar 29, 2009 at 16:18:39 from 63.230.18.211

Wow, those boy scouts will keep you going and young...along with the running of course!!!

From sam on Mon, Mar 30, 2009 at 13:29:28 from 90.195.99.182

Hey Cool picture, Id love to live somewhere near great places like that!

well done on hiking for so long, I would have gotten bored and started running LOL

:)

From Burt on Mon, Mar 30, 2009 at 13:34:22 from 68.76.197.194

Yeah, I thought about running, but I'm glad I didn't because I was spent. I've got all kinds of Kelli-like blisters today, scraped up arms from catclaws, a bruised ankle from who-knows-what, and bruised shoulders from my pack. I'll try to get a little running in tonight, but I'm not promising anything.

From Kelli on Mon, Mar 30, 2009 at 14:35:53 from 71.219.100.181

That is a cool picture, worth the blisters and stuff!

From Camille on Mon, Mar 30, 2009 at 14:47:46 from 75.171.106.195

nice picture. Are you in the scouts? Or did you go because your son is?

From Burt on Mon, Mar 30, 2009 at 15:49:14 from 68.76.197.194

Kelli - like we all don't get blisters. Just picking on you because you made a fuss over them.

Camille - because my son is in it. We got to use my big van though, which you know and love.

From Kelli on Mon, Mar 30, 2009 at 18:16:15 from 71.219.100.181

I have actually been surprised at how many of my running friends never get blisters (or lose toenails). They apparently have gifted feet, or blessed or something like that.

From Julie on Mon, Mar 30, 2009 at 18:30:56 from 216.160.236.43

What a great picture. The blisters would be worth seeing that.

From Burt on Mon, Mar 30, 2009 at 18:58:19 from 68.76.197.194

There are more pictures on my Facebook. But since Kelli and Sam are my only friends, they're the only ones priviliged enough to see them. lol

From Kelli on Mon, Mar 30, 2009 at 18:59:51 from 71.219.100.181

Hmmm....I am not your friend anymore. I got deleted. Maybe your wife could not figure out who I was???

From Burt on Mon, Mar 30, 2009 at 19:04:55 from 68.76.197.194

Hum. That's wierd. I don't think she would've done that even if she didn't know who you were. She's used to me adding friends on there all the time. LOL.

From Burt on Mon, Mar 30, 2009 at 19:06:11 from 68.76.197.194

There, I re-added you.

From Kelli on Mon, Mar 30, 2009 at 19:15:12 from 71.219.100.181

Maybe I deleted her. Na...I would not have done that!!! Thanks.

That hike looked HARD, and that is not just because you were with a bunch of scouts. But it looked like you were having fun. And it actually looked pretty and I do not think much of AZ is pretty (kind of like Utah----ugly desert).

From Burt on Mon, Mar 30, 2009 at 19:18:28 from 68.76.197.194

I guess I'm wierd because I think the desert is beautiful. Sure, there are other more beautiful places on this Earth, but I love the desert. That being said, I think you have seriously hurt AZDM's feelings.

From Kelli on Mon, Mar 30, 2009 at 19:22:24 from 71.219.100.181

I did??? I don't even know what I said.

The sunrise in the desert when we were running Del Sol was very pretty, but I saw so much UGLY, too. I guess it is just a different kind of beauty (or maybe I saw the wrong parts, I have only been there once). I am used to Utah Mountains! Like I said, Utah has a lot of ugly parts, too!

From Sue on Mon, Mar 30, 2009 at 19:42:52 from 75.169.89.51

Cool pics! I wanted to make a comment about you kicking one of the Boy Scouts like you did with my picture but it just wouldn't work:) No kicking in sight. Looks like you guys had fun!

From azdesertmonsoon on Tue, Mar 31, 2009 at 16:22:21 from 204.17.31.126

Beauty comes with intimacy and understanding and I get that most people haven't spent the time to understand the desert enough to appreciate it.

Take running for example. A non-runner makes the typical joke about how the only time they would run is if they are being chased and think they are very funny. It really isn't that they hate running, they just don't understand running because they have never given it a chance or put in the effort and so don't get why anyone would do it.

People who say the desert is ugly generally haven't seen a field of mexican gold poppies in full bloom, seen Queen of the Night flowers blooming on their single night of the year, or learned about much of the other incredible biodiversity found here.

From Camille on Tue, Mar 31, 2009 at 16:36:51 from 75.171.106.195

Kelli - I use to think the desert was ugly as well. This was when I was younger. Now, I think it is gorgious. It's just like Azdesertmonsoon says. I think you have to really look and appreciate it and then you will realize how beautiful it is. I think we live in one of the most beautiful states in the US.

AZdes-that was beautiful!

From Burt on Tue, Mar 31, 2009 at 17:42:54 from 68.76.197.194

See Kelli? Now do you know what you said? That's why I deleted you. (Just kidding.)

From Kelli on Tue, Mar 31, 2009 at 18:20:40 from 71.219.100.181

I actually figured it out while I was trying to fall asleep last night. I was so worried I had offended someone!!! Here is the funny thing, and juts one more example of my stupidity, every time I read azdesertmonsoon I think it says DESSERT not desert. I have a one track mind...

Okay, I will give in on this one. The AZ desert is beautiful! I did see the most amazing sunset with cacti in the background and the last area we ran in (I forget the name) was very pretty, and Burt's hiking pictures are very cool!!! The Utah desert on the other hand is very ugly (aside from St George). When you leave Salt Lake and drive to St George it is just plain UGLY every where in between. Now I have offended half of the blog!!!!

Can I say that I wanted to take a picture of that sunset in AZ so bad, but I was driving and everyone else was sleeping. I was afraid I would crash if I took it while driving and I was afraid if I stopped everyone would wake up and yell at me. I do not even know where I was, somewhere between our 2nd set of legs and 3rd (the LDS church). It was breathtaking!

From Burt on Tue, Mar 31, 2009 at 18:28:33 from 68.76.197.194

Glad I cause you a restless night's sleep. :)

From azdesertmonsoon on Tue, Mar 31, 2009 at 20:03:06 from 204.17.31.126

Yeah, I kind of regret picking such a long obscure name. I'm glad we were able to convince you of the beauty of the desert.
