I didn't go running, but I did go on a 10 mile hike with the Boy Scouts.  This trail was ranked a 5 out of 5 for difficulty from AZ trails.  I'm very sore, but I had a great time.  I don't have a real backpacking backpack.  I used my sports backpack.  Since I'm such a stud, I was able to haul it the whole way, but I will admit, my shoulders are very sore.  And my legs are sore.  And my feet are sore.  And my head is a little sore from a slight sunburn even though I put on sunblock twice.  Maybe I'll post pictures later.

Which Trail? If I had to guess I would say Siphon Draw/Flatiron. But if that is the case you aren't giving yourself enough distance, I think that is more like 6, unless you cheated on the starting point.

Brandon says it's like a spranged ankle... but really, it's what happens when you are at work and your father drops a bunch of wood on your knee while moving lumber. I still love my father in law though... barely. LOL.

I think I can explain the spranged knee. When you said Brandon was an animal you stumbled on the answer. He is part tigger and as everyone knows Tigger's exceptional bouncing abilities can be attributed to the fact that Tiggers have tops made of rubber and bottoms made of springs.

Why do you attempt activities that you aren't equipped for? Running without proper fitting shorts, backpacking with out a proper backpack... Just don't take up skydiving.

Yeah, I thought about running, but I'm glad I didn't because I was spent. I've got all kinds of Kelli-like blisters today, scraped up arms from catclaws, a bruised ankle from who-knows-what, and bruised shoulders from my pack. I'll try to get a little running in tonight, but I'm not promising anything.

I have actually been surprised at how many of my running friends never get blisters (or lose toenails). They apparently have gifted feet, or blessed or something like that.

That hike looked HARD, and that is not just because you were with a bunch of scouts. But it looked like you were having fun. And it actually looked pretty and I do not think much of AZ is pretty (kind of like Utah----ugly desert).

The sunrise in the desert when we were running Del Sol was very pretty, but I saw so much UGLY, too. I guess it is just a different kind of beauty (or maybe I saw the wrong parts, I have only been there once). I am used to Utah Mountains! Like I said, Utah has a lot of ugly parts, too!

Beauty comes with intimacy and understanding and I get that most people haven't spent the time to understand the desert enough to appreciate it.

Take running for example. A non-runner makes the typical joke about how the only time they would run is if they are being chased and think they are very funny. It really isn't that they hate running, they just don't understand running because they have never given it a chance or put in the effort and so don't get why anyone would do it.

People who say the desert is ugly generally haven't seen a field of mexican gold poppies in full bloom, seen Queen of the Night flowers blooming on their single night of the year, or learned about much of the other incredible biodiversity found here.

Kelli - I use to think the desert was ugly as well. This was when I was younger. Now, I think it is gorgious. It's just like Azdesertmonsoon says. I think you have to really look and appreciate it and then you will realize how beautiful it is. I think we live in one of the most beautiful states in the US.

I actually figured it out while I was trying to fall asleep last night. I was so worried I had offended someone!!! Here is the funny thing, and juts one more example of my stupidity, every time I read azdesertmonsoon I think it says DESSERT not desert. I have a one track mind...

Okay, I will give in on this one. The AZ desert is beautiful! I did see the most amazing sunset with cacti in the background and the last area we ran in (I forget the name) was very pretty, and Burt's hiking pictures are very cool!!! The Utah desert on the other hand is very ugly (aside from St George). When you leave Salt Lake and drive to St George it is just plain UGLY every where in between. Now I have offended half of the blog!!!!

Can I say that I wanted to take a picture of that sunset in AZ so bad, but I was driving and everyone else was sleeping. I was afraid I would crash if I took it while driving and I was afraid if I stopped everyone would wake up and yell at me. I do not even know where I was, somewhere between our 2nd set of legs and 3rd (the LDS church). It was breathtaking!
