Dear diary,

So I pulled up to an intersection to make a left hand turn and there were a bunch of cars in the queue.  We got an arrow and most of the cars went through.  It turned yellow, and I could have made it, but decided to wait because there were only a few cars that I'd have to wait for.  Then I saw the guy on the Harley behind me shake his head.  So I totally stuck my head out the window and gave him one of my famous confused yet condescending looks.  You know the one.  Then he started yelling at me about not going when I should have.  So I stuck my hand out the window (have you ever seen Master of Disguise?), and I said, "This is what you're doing.  This is what I want you to do."  Then he yelled at me to shut up.  So I yelled back, "Why don't you make me shut up, Harley man?!"  Then he drove behind me for a half mile until I was about to get on the freeway.  He pulled up next to me, and I stuck my head out the window again and said, "Hey, better safe than sorry, right?"  He said, "I agree with that."  Then I gave him a thumbs up, and everything was cool.

Love,
Burt

You were nice not to beat him into submission. Way to deflate the situation. Nicely done!

From Jake K on Mon, Sep 12, 2011 at 12:16:00 from 155.100.226.53

The left on yellow thing is one of my biggest driving pet peeves. I pretty much always play it super conservative and people behind me probably curse at me all the time.

Here's what drives me nuts... when there is no arrow, but someone is trying to turn left at an intersection against oncoming traffic. Rather than wait where they are supposed to, they just cruise right out into the middle of the intersection, then turn once the oncoming traffic stops (b/c the light is now yellow or red). And they think that is OK!!! They should get ticketed EVERY SINGLE TIME!!! I say no going out into the middle of intersections unless you have a clear path to turn. It scares me b/c if I am running, I'll often get a walk sign telling me its ok to go, but the knuckleheads that went out into the middle of the road still end up turning right at me!

And that's my rant about traffic for the day. My heart rate went up about 30 bpm just thinking about this.

ACorn - For all intents and purposes (or is it intensive purposes?) I should be afraid of Harley men. But underneath their rough looking exterior and murderous hearts they are just big teddy bears.

Jake - Nothing more scary then when a car turns at you. Now that your heartbeat is up, I hope you're ready to do some wind sprints.

JD - Who would you put your money on? A biker or a civil engineer? It's a no brainer.

Lily - Are you laughing with me or at me?

Dear Kira, Am I random, or is it my destiny?

From RAD on Mon, Sep 12, 2011 at 17:18:37 from 76.27.16.189

Ohhh Burty, always getting yourself into trouble. Glad you were able to get yourself out this time and didn't have to call the Bondsman.

Ah Burt, I love reading about your high jinks out on the roads, even when you're not running.

Hey, is that Flatlander in your profile picture?

From Burt on Mon, Sep 12, 2011 at 19:12:22 from 206.19.214.144

RAD - I'm more afraid of you than I am a Harley man.

Steve - Nope. I really am that crazy.

Joe - You know that's Flatlander!

From Burt on Mon, Sep 12, 2011 at 19:34:49 from 206.19.214.144

Dan - My Sonoma could totally take out his little two wheeler.

Merri - I'm not familiar with that movie. Maybe we don't go to the same church. I am familiar with the Armor of God and Saturday's Warrior.

From Burt on Mon, Sep 12, 2011 at 19:37:17 from 206.19.214.144

Ha! I am too familiar with that movie. I just googled it.

From Hamdog Alum on Mon, Sep 12, 2011 at 22:04:45 from 68.185.190.140

FYI - Burt I had a highschool get killed in Janesville WI for taunting a Harley guy. The harley guy pulled a gun and shot into the back of my classmate's jeep. He later died from the gun shot. Be careful who you mouth off to these days. You never know what kind of rage people are carrying. This was in small town Janesville, WI where 1 murder every 6 months to a year is the norm.

Happy birthday to your wife, truly a patient woman.

From DaleG on Tue, Sep 13, 2011 at 03:57:32 from 71.199.57.238

Why were you giving me such a hard time? I just wanted to ride my Harley today and relax, but noooo, you had to get all macho on me.

From GoBeth on Tue, Sep 13, 2011 at 07:16:09 from 71.201.21.192

That's an awesome story. one which could have ended much uglier. Thanks for sharing!!

From Burt on Tue, Sep 13, 2011 at 12:19:17 from 72.223.91.148

Sue - you may be right. Those guys are so sophisticated nowadays. He probably took my license plate to track me down and slit my throat in the night.

Hamdog - Thanks for the cold splash of reality. Such a buzzkill. Seriously though, I should be more cautious.

Flat - thanks. She's got an abundance of patience.

Dale - I was just trying to expose you for the phony that you are.

Beth - It wasn't as cool as seeing Blagojevich or anything, but it was pretty cool. :)

From DaleG on Tue, Sep 13, 2011 at 12:29:18 from 184.192.211.35

I may be phony, but I'm a sophisticated phony. By the way, do you have any Grey Poupon?

From julieesplin on Tue, Sep 13, 2011 at 15:49:32 from 75.169.176.63

I can't decide whether you're brave, stupid, or funny. I mean I know you're funny, but that's not quite enough of an explaination.

From JulieC on Tue, Sep 13, 2011 at 15:56:49 from 70.56.108.193

i am just glad you weren't typing that diary entry with your respirator....you have guts. one blink = A. Two blinks for B. Seriously glad that ended all well.

From steve ash on Tue, Sep 13, 2011 at 16:06:46 from 24.10.169.210

Man, I had a similar incident with two gang bangers once.. Once.. I was lucky to escape alive. Like Hamdog said you never know what someone might be packing.

From Burt on Tue, Sep 13, 2011 at 16:35:56 from 206.19.214.144

Julie - Well if being stupid is funny, then of course I'm funny.

Julie - I love my 2.5 mile commute to work. It's so peaceful. But when I get out of my driving comfort zone, like the freeway for instance, I start to experience road rage.

Steve - The only thing he was packing was a bunch of twinkies and ho ho's.

From Leandra on Wed, Sep 14, 2011 at 10:10:35 from 67.214.251.82
