After last week's 35 mile ride I thought I should be able to do a 50 mile ride if I keep to a relatively flat course.  So I set out to ride 50 miles around the Mesa city limits.  I took a water bottle, a Gel, and a pack of Shot Bloks.  I should have brought some snacks with some salt in them, but I survived.  First I headed toward the ghetto.  I could tell the wind would not be cooperating.  But I'm so stubborn that I tried to ignore it.  Dobson Road is not a good road to ride a bike on.  I know that now.  But it was nice when there was road construction and I was going faster than the traffic.  I also hit some traffic near Hohokam Park where the Chicago Cubs play during spring training.  There was a game about to start.  One scalper asked me if I needed tickets.  His friend said, "Nah man.  He's riding a bike!"  I laughed.  It was a gorgeous day out.  As I approached northeast Mesa, I started the climb up.  It wasn't as significant as the climb up Usery Pass last week, but it was still a pretty good climb.  Going downhill is always the best.  But it does put pressure on your hands.  Then I got to my old neighborhood.  It was nostalgic to see where I used to run back when I started running again 6 years ago.  There was some road construction blocking the road.  Luckily I knew my way through my old neighborhood.  By this time my butt was barely hanging on to my body.  My legs were getting numb.  And the wind was taking it's toll on me.  But I knew it was all downhill, so I just cruised in.  When I got home I was disgusted to see my Garmin said 49.61 miles.  I had to ride to the end of the street and back to make it 50.00 even.

Nice miles, dude! Pretty impressive. How long did that take? And did you wear sunscreen this time?

From Burt on Sat, Mar 23, 2013 at 19:44:13 from 72.223.80.89

It took less than 4 hours. Hold on. Let me turn back on my Garmin. 3 hours, 47 minutes, 15 seconds. I did put sunscreen on. But since I wore longer shorts this time I thought I didn't need to put any on my legs. Now just from my knees half way up my thighs are burnt :)

Is this your way of transitioning to the triathlon scene?

Great ride, always fun to visit the old neighborhood.

Thanks Adamdogdillyous. I may do a tri. I like them. But I tend to panic in the water instead of taking it nice and easy.

Got a picture for you now Corndog!

Wow.

Thanks, I don't know if my night would've been complete had you not posted that! I have some pretty goofy tan lines come summer time. I don't know if they're appropriate for FRB.

Wow, great job, Burt!!! I couldn't ride 50 miles if my life depended on it.

From Burt on Sat, Mar 23, 2013 at 23:18:40 from 72.223.80.89

Thanks Dale. Sorry you missed the pornographic picture of my leg earlier.

Oh, its ok, I don't want to fall off the wagon.

Nice work Burt! 50 miles is no joke on a bike. All kinds of things go numb on a ride that long. I think I wrote a haiku or two about that last summer :)

From Burt on Sun, Mar 24, 2013 at 11:32:26 from 72.223.80.89

Please find those for me, Trap.

Bike ride really stunk

Not from rain or any pain

I can't feel my junk

From Burt on Sun, Mar 24, 2013 at 11:39:45 from 72.223.80.89

Beautiful. Those words really spoke to me.

From rAtTLeTrAp on Sun, Mar 24, 2013 at 11:42:42 from 24.19.80.36

I was hoping to stir some feeling. Glad I could help.

From SlowJoe on Sun, Mar 24, 2013 at 15:00:23 from 96.61.24.215

I went well over 50 miles in my car the other day, not sure what the big deal is...

Nah, I'm just jealous. That's 2 people that are cooler than me now.

From Burt on Sun, Mar 24, 2013 at 21:21:44 from 72.223.80.89

Don't worry Joe. I'll do something to bring my popularity down again. Maybe pee my pants in public or something.

From Ericka on Mon, Mar 25, 2013 at 12:01:36 from 24.2.87.24

Half a century is no joke. Nice job pushing yourself through it!

From Burt on Mon, Mar 25, 2013 at 12:03:49 from 71.216.109.214

Thanks Ericka. I was having to stop every three miles or so at the end to get some feeling back in my legs.

From Ericka on Mon, Mar 25, 2013 at 12:07:44 from 24.2.87.24

Do you get neck pain at all?

From Burt on Mon, Mar 25, 2013 at 12:11:57 from 71.216.109.214

A little, but not bad. I feel great today. How are you?

From Ericka on Mon, Mar 25, 2013 at 14:04:15 from 24.2.87.24

That's good. I was just gonna say it might help to get your bike fitted to you if you're getting aches and pains.

From Tara on Mon, Mar 25, 2013 at 18:15:19 from 75.169.137.208

Hey, where'd the picture go!? Now my original "wow" comment just makes me look snub, like a 50 mile bike ride is nothing.

The last time I rode 50 miles (once, because I got lost) I walked like a cowgirl for days. Kudos.

From Burt on Mon, Mar 25, 2013 at 19:47:58 from 72.223.80.89

Well, Annie Oakley, thanks for coming back to look at the picture.

From artichoke on Mon, Mar 25, 2013 at 20:12:48 from 174.52.123.59

Great job Burt!! If I rode 50 miles my butt would still be hanging on the bicycle seat. I see you have OCD like me and like to have round numbers. Great effort!

From Tara on Mon, Mar 25, 2013 at 20:34:18 from 75.169.137.208

Who's that?

From Burt on Mon, Mar 25, 2013 at 20:45:36 from 72.223.80.89

Choke - maybe that's because it's so cold in Utah it would freeze to the seat.
