AM Bike Ride

Distance - 17.67 miles

Time - 1:09:13

Avg. Speed - 15.3 mph

Max. Speed - 20.6 mph

Temp - 82

Sweat levels - minimal

Sometimes I wonder if I took the top 70 quarter milers in the US and they raced me relay style on my bike to work, would I win?  Not today.  Today was humid, so I took it nice and easy.  I didn't want to be in danger of going above a sweat level of 3.

Danger Will Robinson - sweat level 3 alert alert ...

Those 1/4 milers are really fast.

Good ride Burt!! How is the knee?

From Burt on Fri, Jun 26, 2009 at 12:15:42 from 68.76.197.194

Since I haven't tried running on it yet, I'm not too sure. I went to the D-backs game a couple of nights ago (they lost), and as I was walking down the ramp, it kind of hurt. I definitely want to get out tomorrow morning for a run.

From Leandra on Fri, Jun 26, 2009 at 12:20:43 from 71.213.96.214

I didn't even work out today but my room was so hot, I'm pretty sure I woke up at sweat level 5. sick. We're holding out on turing on the AC as long as possible.

From sam Dean-Howard on Fri, Jun 26, 2009 at 13:49:23 from 90.212.41.35

go running, sweat level will be a 6 for sure LOL

From Rhett on Fri, Jun 26, 2009 at 14:16:00 from 170.215.58.122

Burt maybe you could post a more detailed sweat level chart for us so we are all on the same page.

From Bonnie on Fri, Jun 26, 2009 at 14:19:44 from 128.196.228.134

ahhhh, yes Rhett ... and maybe we could use GIS technology to map it, oh no that was not a good idea!

I do like the color coding though, red alert would be bad with white being a "safe" day to sit next to him after he gets to work.

From Burt on Fri, Jun 26, 2009 at 14:28:00 from 68.76.197.194

Leandra - My HS biology teacher told us that we don't sweat in our sleep. Nobody believed him.

Sam - rest assured that when I run, I'm at sweat level 10.

Rhett - did you not see Wednesday's entry? Was that not detailed enough?

Bonnie - all roads lead to Rome, if you know what I'm saying. And engineers don't like human interaction. We're creepy like that.

From Bonnie on Fri, Jun 26, 2009 at 14:29:42 from 128.196.228.134

oh yes Burt, I know. Statisticians are like that too. No one ever believes that Dean and I are statisticians. Unless they see us at conferences (and we kind of stick out ;-) ).

From Burt on Fri, Jun 26, 2009 at 14:47:44 from 68.76.197.194

I thought you were a statistician. I once crunched some numbers to see who was the better half marathoner - Sash Pachev or Paul Peterson. Since it'd been too long since I took statistics, I only used average times and standard deviations. Paul had a slightly faster avg. time, but his std dev was way higher. What would a statistician do to see who's best?

From Bonnie on Fri, Jun 26, 2009 at 15:00:43 from 128.196.228.134

Depends on how many samples you have from each. If I am to assume you have a lot of them (say 20 races?) then the easy answer, from stat101: take the ratio of the variance of pauls times to sashas. If this variance was < 5 then use a t-test statistic to test the difference in the means. If the ratio is > 5 then use an adjusted t-test statistic that takes into account the difference in the variances, but still tests the difference between their mean race times. I would also plot them (box or dot plots). I also have a more complicated answer that I would actually use. It involves using a nonparametric test statistic and density plots. I could show you the plots if you send me the data, pretty cool actually ...

From Burt on Fri, Jun 26, 2009 at 15:26:49 from 68.76.197.194

You are so cool Bonnie. I just found the data. I used 19 HM's for Sasha and 10 for Paul. However, I forgot that Sasha had a faster average than Paul unless you take out Paul's three slowest HM's. But then your sample size is smaller and how does that compare to the larger sample size Sasha has? I'll send you the spreadsheet. It's quite crude, so I hope you can make sense out of it.

Hahaha level 10 when Running, not surprised were you live!

I get to level 10 in the gym on the treadmill when I do a fast session and the air con isnt on and the air circulation isnt on, only happened once so far! BUT MY GOODNESS ME it wasnt nice LOL ;-) see Chris M has done a sweat chart

Your sweat chart made me laugh on the outside and the inside.

From Brent on Sat, Jun 27, 2009 at 21:43:23 from 66.7.127.219

Burt, how is your fitness level holding up while biking? Sweat levels, what the heck? I know, it is 105 at mid night.

Stay Kool, Ice under the hat, B of BS Rools out

From Merri on Sat, Jun 27, 2009 at 23:58:11 from 207.88.76.69

my sister had some sweat glands removed from her pits. you should try that. I'm not saying if this sister was leandra or not. I'll let you figure it out.

From Burt on Sun, Jun 28, 2009 at 00:28:57 from 98.167.151.26

Brent - I finally went running tonight. My fitness level is down, but not too bad.

Merri - If it was Leandra then she's lying to make friends. She always tells me how much she sweats, and how cool she is...

From Leandra on Sun, Jun 28, 2009 at 01:40:35 from 76.27.81.221

okay you caught me, only 3 fingers and no sweat glands... I should really be traveling with the carnival.

Burt too bad you can't know the real sister that had the surgery done, she's a treat. A real treat.
