A new 10k PR!  This wasn't a race, but I managed to run 10,000 meters faster than I ever have.  I didn't mean to run so fast.  I just felt real good this morning.  I still have my Garmin set to alert me after every 8 minutes and 15 seconds.  I figured that sounded just about right because I wanted to run 6.2 miles.  But I never got close to that.  Most of the time I start out fast, and then slow down until I manage to average what I think I'm going to.  This morning I just felt fresh and ready to run.  Below is the breakdown.

Time: 48:50 (avg. pace 7:52) PR by 1 minute

Splits:

1 mile - 7:34

2 mile - 7:47

3 mile - 8:05

4 mile - 8:12

5 mile - 7:55

6 mile - 7:46

0.2 miles - 1:31 (7:22 avg.)

Somebody give me a medal!

According to the race predictor you can run the St George Marathon in 3:37:54 and run a flat half marathon in 1:47:45. Looks like you are well on your way to hitting your short term goals. Seems like you could possibly BQ for next year.

Dude... way cool!

I think it would take at least a solid year of training, 60 miles a week, running 6 days a week, like Sasha says. There's just a little thing I lack right now, and that's dedication. But I'm trying to get better. I don't want to run another marathon until I think I can qualify for Boston.

I can't believe how much you have improved over such a short period of time. You are kicking some butt! Awesome!

You didn't just beat it, you crushed it. Nice job. Don't you just love days like this?

From azdesertmonsoon on Tue, Mar 10, 2009 at 17:11:38 from 204.17.31.126

I was thinking 3:30 would qualify, now I see It is a bit lower than that.

Thanks, everyone. You all inspire me.

Nice run, Burt. I think that the consistent training is starting to pay dividends (as is the weight loss!). Keep up the good work and you will continue to see your times go down.

From Kelli on Tue, Mar 10, 2009 at 18:12:21 from 71.219.87.34

Wow, Burt, that is awesome. You really are doing great.

So, your BQ time is 3:15?? With how fast you have gotten thus far (and quickly, I might add), you could totally do it!! You have us all rooting for you.

From Eric Day on Tue, Mar 10, 2009 at 20:11:41 from 189.192.207.151

Burt, you can do a sub 1:46 HM. My best time for 10k is 49 and I did 1:46 in HM; so if you did 48 min in 10k, I bet you could do a sub 1:46 HM.

Good workout & excellent time!

WooHoo!!! Gotta love PR day like yours. WOW, great splits and impressive improvement. WAY TO GO!!! Keep it up! More PRs coming your way!
