I didn't think I could pull off another sub 6 minute mile tonight, and I was right.  My legs are still sore from Saturday, and I'm just not as fast as I was a few months ago.  But I gave it a try.  When I saw the first lap was 1:30 and I was already sucking wind, I knew it wasn't going to be.  Really.  Coming down the home stretch with the wind blowing in my face was almost making me choke on the wind.  Kind of a momentum killer, too.

But I had a good time.  And I saw my college friend Urmas Grossthal.  Yes I did go to college.  Urmas is from Estonia.  He's an interesting character.  And I saw Mark, Terri, and Jim.  Great runners.  Great people.  Great abs.

My second mile was 6:54 and I came in 12th place.  That's because a lot of people didn't do the second mile.  But I always go the second mile.

You always go the extra mile. That's what I like about you. Yawn....sorry, I almost fell asleep. Two hours, fifteen minutes to go until I get off work.

dale! wake up!

nice going, burt. was DD (aka DoubleDee) there?

isn't it like 4am in arizona? are you up late or are you up early?

From Burt on Wed, May 18, 2011 at 02:20:11 from 72.223.90.79

Dale - Maybe I should liven my posts up a little.

allie - It's almost 11pm. But it's 5 o' clock somewhere.

From allie on Wed, May 18, 2011 at 02:39:05 from 174.23.197.101

thanks for posting the link for more info on "estonia" -- it took me to some online encyclopedia called "wikipedia". seems like a very useful site. do you know they have an article on there about the degree symbol?

I forgot Arizona doesn't participate in Daylight Savings. That would be great. The time change always messes me up for months. Just when I start getting used to it, they switch it back. It's insane....in the membrane.

From DaleG on Wed, May 18, 2011 at 03:02:14 from 152.216.7.5

I'm barely awake, Allie. Hey, that Wikipedia sounds pretty cool. What'll they think of next? I also heard about this cool search tool called "Google." Where has it been all my life? These computation machines do everything. I just upgraded from my Commodore 64.

From runningafterbabies on Wed, May 18, 2011 at 08:06:02 from 71.195.219.247

Wow, and I thought I was up early.

Very nice run, Burt. I know you're saving yourself for an out of this world PR.

When Jon and I lived in New Jersey we met several people from Estonia. I wonder if they know each other.

Melody - I'm sure they do. Such a small place. Sorry about the hit and run on Carina's blog.

Way to go the extra mile dude.

Highest level of Internet freedom? Whodathunk?

SWEET! Great job Burt! I think I do have Burtsitis! ha!

From SlowJoe on Wed, May 18, 2011 at 11:42:32 from 131.59.200.82

Looks like you still hung in relatively well after the first lap. Nice running!

After leaving the old gray-shirt profile pic up for so long, you've really been swapping them out lately, I like that. I'm gonna say the Burt in the current picture could not have run a 6:09.

From Burt on Wed, May 18, 2011 at 11:54:41 from 72.223.90.79

Trap - Ever heard of Home Star Runner? It's on the internet. ;)

Steam - you might want to get that checked out.

Joe - That Burt couldn't run 50 yards. Actually that Burt couldn't run a step. If you notice I'm wearing a boot left leg. That was after I twisted my ankle real bad playing basketball. Decided to take up running after that.

From rAtTLeTrAp on Wed, May 18, 2011 at 12:14:24 from 69.96.136.252

Homestarrunner is my homie. Strongbad emails are the best! Your profile pic reminds me of bubs :)

From runningafterbabies on Wed, May 18, 2011 at 12:35:37 from 71.195.219.247

I forgive you. I'm warning you - don't google it!

From RAD on Wed, May 18, 2011 at 16:37:45 from 98.202.17.113

Excellent work on that speedy mile Burt! I don't ever use google, I heard it was developed by the spawn of satan to drag us all down to he....his house :)

From Rye on Wed, May 18, 2011 at 16:44:20 from 71.209.62.116

I'll be back to see the next profile pic of Burt. What's up Burt? You are changing your profile pick as often as you change... never mind. That was pretty lame.... 80's or more like 70's. Wait... I don't recall much of the 70's.

From rAtTLeTrAp on Wed, May 18, 2011 at 18:18:01 from 69.96.136.252

(insert female british accent)I have it on good authority that if you google google, it will break the Internet.

From Burt on Wed, May 18, 2011 at 18:27:16 from 206.19.214.144

RAD - No, Lady Gaga is the spawn of Satan. So why don't you go google gaga.

Rye - Changing what Rye? Go ahead. Say it!

Trap - Let's not open that pandora's box.

From Merri on Thu, May 19, 2011 at 12:09:47 from 160.7.252.148

great abs. :)

From Carolyn in Colorado on Thu, May 19, 2011 at 13:01:44 from 71.229.134.155

I think Burt is probably the Poop Smith.

But that extra mile is almost scriptural.

From Burt on Thu, May 19, 2011 at 13:11:12 from 206.19.214.144

CinC - I would never intentionally quote scripture on a public forum.

From rAtTLeTrAp on Thu, May 19, 2011 at 13:36:20 from 75.196.91.234

CinC - The Poopsmith never speaks. How is that like Burt? Coach Z is probably a better fit. Good joooorb Burt!

From Carolyn in Colorado on Thu, May 19, 2011 at 14:08:57 from 71.229.134.155

The inadequacy of my homestarrunner knowledge is showing.

From ChrisM on Thu, May 19, 2011 at 14:57:52 from 82.26.207.83

you should go EASY on the FIRST mile and HARD on the second mile then you will WIN!

From Burt on Fri, May 20, 2011 at 02:03:54 from 72.223.90.79

Chris - I was thinking the same thing. Or not even run the first mile at all.

From GoBeth on Sat, May 21, 2011 at 15:08:59 from 98.206.38.204

That's awesome, Burt. I don't think I've run a mile in under 7 minutes since I was in middle school. Congrats on doing both miles!!

From Burt on Sat, May 21, 2011 at 15:10:31 from 72.223.90.79

Thanks Beth!
